COVID-19 & Myeloma InfoBulletin

Important information & links for our myeloma community
July 9, 2020 - Edition #12
Martine Elias - Executive Director
Hi everyone,

As we find ourselves in the heat of the summer, it’s understandable that some of us are having a difficult time keeping up with the physical distancing that our federal and provincial governments have put into place...We've officially passed the 100-day mark since the World Health Organization declared the global outbreak of the coronavirus a pandemic on March 11 th, 2020.
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the World Health Organization’s Director General stated, “This pandemic is a scientific challenge, but it is also a test of character. We must act in the interests of global solidarity and our shared humanity”. I couldn't agree more. We have all been affected by our new reality, and I cannot stress enough the importance of remaining diligent with physical distancing and mask-wearing.*

Every day, research reveals new hypotheses and evidence on this highly contagious disease, the latest topic being lingering aerosols and the risk of airborne transmission of COVID-19. There is discussion now that goes beyond what we originally believed about droplets and microdroplets; new research is suggesting that particles may be lingering in the air for hours and the risk may be beyond 6 feet, especially when indoors. The key is to keep your distance, and wear your mask when indoors with anyone not in your bubble, or when you’re outside and can’t control the distance between you and others.

Let’s do all we can to mitigate risk; in the end, it’s a small price to pay for health, safety and peace of mind.

Take care, stay safe and stay well,

Martine
