Aim for Distinguished

This year’s goal is to be a distinguished district. Help us reach our goal by making your club distinguished through intentional weekly efforts. I believe in you and know we can do this!

I encourage every member to regularly:

  1. Invite a guest
  2. Give a speech
  3. Take a meeting role

To be Distinguished, the district needs:

  • 19 more paid club(s)
  • 37 more distinguished club(s).
  • 1444 more paid membership(s).

How a club becomes distinguished:

  1. Add 5 more club members.
  2. Attend the 2nd round of Club officer training ( 4 officers to qualify DCP)
  3. Members give Pathway speeches at club meetings.
  4. Club earn 5 Distinguished Club Points = Distinguished
  5. Club earn 7 Distinguished Points = Select Distinguished
  6. Club earns 9 Distinguished Points = President’s Distinguished

Let’s challenge ourselves to see how much we can grow our clubs and gain points by the end of December to get our district closer to being distinguished. We can do it!

Embrace Growth - One Member at a Time

Greetings, District 106 Toastmasters!

As we approach the halfway point of the Toastmasters year, let’s pause to recognize all we’ve achieved so far, even as we look toward the opportunities ahead. Toastmasters International is introducing some exciting changes in the upcoming year to help our clubs thrive. One of which is a renewed focus to ensure all clubs have a minimum of 12 members to support high-quality meetings and engaging experiences for all.

This goal presents a powerful opportunity for us to embrace growth and enrich our Toastmasters journey together. For many clubs, increasing membership might feel daunting—but let’s take it one month at a time. I challenge each club in District 106 to add one new member per month from now until the end of June. Just one member can make a significant difference in bringing fresh energy, new ideas, and diverse perspectives that can enhance every meeting.

Why the 12-Member Minimum Matters

With 12 or more active members, our clubs gain the momentum needed to host vibrant, well-rounded meetings. A larger membership base allows for a variety of speakers, evaluators, and meeting roles each week, which keeps the experience fresh and engaging for everyone. More members mean more voices, more encouragement, and ultimately, more growth opportunities for us all.

How to Achieve One Member a Month

Here are some effective strategies that many clubs have found successful. Let’s

break down the challenge together:

1. Create a Welcoming Guest Experience: First impressions count! Make sure each guest feels the warmth and support of your club from the moment they walk in. Introduce them to members, invite them to participate in Table Topics if they’re comfortable, and follow up with a thank-you note or email after the meeting.

2. Host an Open House or Bring-a-Friend Event: Special events provide a welcoming environment for newcomers and showcase the benefits of Toastmasters. Consider a themed meeting, a demonstration of Pathways, or a session on overcoming public speaking anxiety. Ask each member to bring a guest – you’ll be surprised how quickly these events can boost membership!

3. Leverage Social Media: Use Facebook, LinkedIn, or Meetup to promote your club and attract local professionals who might be looking for communication and leadership development. Sharing meeting highlights, member stories, or quotes about personal growth can inspire people to come see what Toastmasters is all about.

4. Recognize Your Members’ Accomplishments: Acknowledge milestones such as completing a Pathways level or taking on a new role. This keeps current members engaged while showing prospective members that our clubs are places where real growth happens.

5. Encourage Word-of-Mouth Referrals: Your current members are your best ambassadors. Encourage them to share their Toastmasters journey with friends, family, and colleagues. Personal stories of transformation and growth can be powerful in attracting new members.

Let’s Grow Stronger Together

Remember, adding one member a month is a manageable, achievable target. And by focusing on steady growth, we’re not just growing in numbers; we’re investing in the quality of our meetings and the experiences we create for each other.

Let’s keep our momentum going as we close out the first half of the year with a renewed focus on club growth. Thank you for your commitment to making your clubs stronger, and I can’t wait to see how far we can go together.

Keep inspiring, keep growing, and remember: Every member counts!

Let’s Celebrate, Connect, and Keep Growing!

Dear Vice Presidents of Public Relations and Fellow Toastmasters,

As we continue our journey of growth, both personally and within our clubs, let's take a moment to reflect on the power of visibility. The work we do as communicators and leaders deserves to be shared and celebrated and there's no better way to amplify our impact than through the power of social media!

This month, I challenge each of you to engage with your club’s online presence. Whether it's sharing meeting highlights, member achievements, or club events, your voice can inspire others to join our Toastmasters community. Social media is a powerful tool, not only for building our clubs but also for showcasing the incredible work you're doing in your leadership roles.

Let’s work together to create a ripple effect that sparks curiosity and motivates others to take that first step toward joining us in developing their communication and leadership skills.

Together, we can spread the word and showcase the positive impact Toastmasters has on individuals and communities. Here’s to making our Toastmasters journey even more visible, vibrant, and inspiring!

Warm regards,

Leo Smith, DTM

New Opportunity for Club Mentors

BREAKING NEWS! Fulfilling your DTM requirement to be a club mentor just got a little easier. Finding club leads is challenging & can be a bottleneck to earning a DTM.

Toastmasters International just widened that bottleneck by offering a new way to be a club mentor. Now you can serve as a club mentor for a reinstated club! This will help the Districts in both retention & creation of clubs.

The rules for a club reinstatement mentorship are as follows:

  • Clubs inactive for one (1) to four (4) full dues renewal periods may be reinstated. To do so, the club must submit signed membership applications for all individual members to World Headquarters and pay all of the following in full:
  1. Current renewal dues for a minimum of 12 individual members, at least three (3) of whom were individual members of the club immediately prior to its inactive status and;
  2. Future dues for the next renewal period for the same 12 individual members.
  • In addition to the payment requirements, each reinstating club is also eligible to have up to two (2) club mentors appointed at the time of reinstatement.
  • Clubs inactive for five (5) or more full dues renewal periods are required to be chartered as new clubs, meeting all chartering requirements.

If mentorships for club restatements or new clubs interests you, please let me know that you want to join the club mentorship team.
