ONOR Journal | April Edition

From Earth Day to Everyday Impact

The question is no longer whether we understand the urgency. It is whether we are prepared to act on it.

This April edition brings together a set of voices and initiatives that reflect a shared shift from intention to impact. Across education, venture capital, and sustainability, a common narrative emerges: meaningful progress is built through collaboration, informed decision-making, and the courage to translate ideas into practice.

From conversations with investors transforming the future of innovation, to educational programs shaping the next generation across Eastern Europe, particularly in Romania, each story in this issue speakes about the power of collective effort. These are not isolated moments, but part of a defining initiative, one that connects global insight with local action, and vision with responsibility.

Sustainability is often talked about, but far more rarely lived with consistency and intention.

Maria Magdalena Caramilea, Head of Sustainability at Autonom Romania, offers a thoughtful and compelling perspective on how sustainability becomes real: through everyday decisions, long-term vision, and the courage to act responsibly, even when it is not the easiest path.

Autonom also demonstrates a strong and ongoing commitment to education through its involvement in the Wings of Change - Educational Tour powered by ONOR Foundation, an initiative that brings learning, empathy, and opportunity closer to communities across Romania, while also encouraging upcycling and creativity as powerful tools for innovation and responsible thinking. It shows that real impact happens when values are consistently put into action.

A perspective grounded in purpose, consistency, and the power of small choices to change that truly matters.

Capital, Clarity, and Consequence

The real story behind every investment is not found in the numbers. It is shaped in the questions no one avoids and the decisions no one takes lightly.

Featuring Nick Bendell, Venture Capital Senior, MTech Capital and Madeline Armitage, Founder, Mhysa, this episode reveals what it actually takes to build trust between founders and investors: from rigorous due diligence and identifying hidden risks, to managing the pressures of scaling and using storytelling to stand out in competitive markets.

Drawing on publicly available data and firm disclosures, a leading insurtech‑focused venture firm manages a flagship fund of over $650M focused on insurance innovation, while MTech Capital has built a global portfolio spanning the insurtech ecosystem, supporting founders from early‑stage to scale.

Grounded in real experience, this is a conversation about honest expectations and hard-won judgment. The kind of clarity required to build companies that endure.

Wings of Change

Educational Tour in Romania

April 19-25, 2026

What if sustainability wasn’t just taught, but experienced, created, and reimagined?

Wings of Change, a cross-cultural educational initiative by the ONOR Foundation in partnership with organizations from the United States and Romania, takes place during Earth Week. This initiative exemplifies a strategic collaboration between the United States and Romania, connecting global leaders with local communities to advance education, economic mobility, and opportunity through meaningful engagement.

Five schools and two centers supporting children with disabilities bringing together over 350 students, educators, and industry leaders, all united by a bold mission: rethinking sustainability through hands-on workshops and collaborative learning.

From classrooms to communities, Wings of Change comes alive through the dedicated support of our partners across the private sector, government, and academia, united by a shared commitment to education and the inspiration of young minds. Each space transforms into a hub of imagination, where students explore, create, and redefine upcycling in action.

Across Bucharest, Bacau, Vaslui, Ramnicu Valcea, and Chitila, small ideas grow into meaningful impact. Students work with eco-friendly kits, including 3D “Sparkle” birds made from reusable plastic, seed pencils, eco-friendly notebooks, and artisan-crafted clay pots, turning sustainability into hands-on learning. The program also awards $6,000 in scholarships and shares powerful stories through the voices of students.

Distinguished collaborators from the United States and Romania include Dr. Mary Ellen Weber, NASA astronaut, Major General (Ret.) Sheryl Gordon, Alabama National Guard, Andreea Raducan, Olympic Gymnast, five-time World Champion, Gabriela Szabó, Olympic Champion Runner, Narcisa Lecusanu, Executive Member, International Handball Federation, Candy Hansen Gage, Global Trade Strategist and Educator, Diane Buffington, Philanthropist and Mentor, Adela Lazar, President of GreenPoint Management, Magdalena Caramilea, Head of Sustainability, Autonom Group and Magada Popescu, Executive Director, FAN Courier Foundation.

A roundtable in Vaslui, led by Rolanda Gott, M.D., Clinical Director, Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, UCLA, convened educators and therapists to discuss autism and inclusive support for children.

Driven by our trusted partners, Wings of Change continues to expand access to education and opportunity, supporting the next generation to shape a sustainable future.

Join the effort and discover how you can help inspire even more students.

Imagine a future where every decision made in classrooms and boardrooms contributes to a more sustainable world. As we are exploring the powerful intersection of education, venture capital, and sustainable finance, three arenas that may seem distinct, yet are deeply connected in their potential to drive meaningful impact.

Through ONOR’s educational initiatives, we nurture learning across diverse environments, proving that knowledge is the foundation of long-term progress. Simultaneously, conversations with venture capital investors reveal how clarity of vision, responsibility, and strategic thinking are guiding capital toward sustainable outcomes.

Sustainability emerges as the common thread, not just a principle, but a lens through which we educate, invest, and innovate. From shaping the minds of future generations to influencing market decisions today, it defines the path to impact.

This edition captures a powerful alignment, where educational initiatives shape mindset, investor insights shape markets, and sustainable finance emerges as a catalyst for resilient growth.
