From Patricia Price, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs:
Associate Provost for Innovation and Student Success Nathalia Holtzman has accepted the position of interim provost and senior vice president for Academic Affairs at the College of Staten Island and will depart Queens College after more than 20 years of service.
As associate provost, Nathalia led transformative initiatives that strengthened student retention, enhanced career readiness, and advanced inclusive excellence. She provided strategic oversight for the Learning Commons, First Year Experience, Center for Career Engagement and Internships, Experiential Education, Pre-Professional Advising, and the Office of Honors and Scholars. Under her leadership, Queens College doubled the number of tutoring sessions offered annually and expanded support for career-infused curriculum and advising.
Nathalia also launched the college’s inaugural Transfer Hub, a centralized resource designed to streamline advising, articulation, and academic support for incoming transfer students.
A seasoned grant writer and principal investigator, Nathalia secured over $10 million in external funding from the National Science Foundation, U.S. Department of Education, HHMI, the Heckscher Foundation, and the Sloan Foundation, supporting efforts in STEM education, transfer student success, faculty development, and institutional change. She worked closely with faculty and staff across disciplines to redesign high-enrollment courses, embed evidence-based teaching practices, and foster a culture of continuous assessment and improvement.
In addition to her administrative role, Nathalia was a tenured associate professor in the Department of Biology, where she maintained an active research program focused on cardiovascular development and environmental toxicology using zebrafish as a model system.
Nathalia brings outstanding leadership, creativity, and professionalism to her work. She has shared with me that she has been consistently inspired by our students’ determination, the creativity and dedication of our faculty, the tireless contributions of our staff, and the way this campus comes together to make extraordinary things happen, and that she will always value the experiences and collaborations that have defined her years at QC.
I am confident that Nathalia will contribute mightily to the success of the College of Staten Island—and CUNY—in her new role. We thank Nathalia for her dedicated service to the Queens College community, and we wish her the best of luck.
A competitive national search to fill this position will begin immediately.
