The cast now includes Steven Strickland, routinely seen as the lead FBI agent on Law & Order SVU and Staxx Cordero, a NYC actress and film producer. They will play the charismatic Brazilian agitator and his samba dancing mistress.

Tickets are $20 (reception to follow) and can be purchased at the link below. Proceeds support

preserving historic Christ Church and presenting cultural and community programs.

Synopsis:

This exciting dramatic reading delves into the world of global finance as well as the poignant relationship between an uncle and his niece. Set on Wall Street and in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Banking on Rio follows Lizzy, who wants to pursue a career in developing country financing. Well-meaning and desperately wanting to help the locals in the favela, she struggles to bring them progress. Trends in global finance are engagingly illuminated through real-life deals that Lizzy’s Uncle Martin orchestrates. She’s on board until she meets Marcos, a charismatic Brazilian agitator who tries to thwart Martin’s plan to demolish his medical center in the slum and relocate the locals. And then we meet Leila, a Brazilian firecracker/samba teacher who lives with Marcos but is having an affair with the investment banker Martin. Lizzy tries to make sense of the chaos surrounding her but is thwarted at every turn. Will her dogged determination win out? If so, at what personal and professional price?

Church Closed November 11

Christ Church will be closed on Wednesday, November 11. There will be NO service of morning prayer or midday healing Eucharist.

Community Thanksgiving

This year Christ Church is partnering with the First Presbyterian Church to host a community Thanksgiving meal in the Parish Hall. Please click the buttons below volunteer to help or to donate supplies or funds.

Potluck Luncheon

On Sunday, November 22 we will have a special potluck luncheon during coffee hour to celebrate our Feast of Title, Christ the King Sunday, and to officially welcome our deacon, the Rev'd Richard Erickson.

Deanery Convocation

From the Very Rev'd Jane Brady-Close, Dean of the Hudson Valley:

A reminder that we have another gathering of the Hudson Valley Deanery on Sunday, November 15, 3 p.m., at St. Paul's, 6 Sylvester Street, Kinderhook NY.

We will begin with Evensong, with Fr. Bill Lytle as officiant, and Mtr. Lori Kochanski, as preacher. Tom Martin from Christ Church will be our organist. A pot-luck supper and our business meeting follow. We are requesting that all clergy and parish delegates will attend and warmly invite all other members and friends who share in the worship and witnesses of our Hudson Valley Deanery (churches in Greene and Hudson County) to join us.

Please R.S.V.P. (below) to Shirley Kelly, junior warden, so the hospitality team at St. Paul's can plan for your presence and what you might like to offer (only if you are able) for our meal.

We also will be celebrating Mtr. Lori Kochanski, who began as pastor-in-charge at St. Paul's just yesterday, and Deacon Rick Erickson, who recently was appointed by Bishop Jeremiah to serve at Christ Church, Hudson.

2027 Stewardship

Stewardship letters were sent out last week. Please prayerfully consider what you can commit in time and finances to the work of Christ Church next year and return your pledge card on Christ the King Sunday, November 22. You can download a pledge card at the link below to print out and return to the church.

New Communuion
Traffic Pattern

Beginning Sunday, October 25, we will be having two stations at the distribution of communion: one at the High Altar, and one at the Lady Altar. Those who would like to come to communion but have difficulty with the steps are encouraged to go to the Lady Altar. Those coming to the High Altar should come up on the right (choir) side, fill in across the altar rail, and then return on the left (organ) side. We will no longer be exiting through the sacristy. (See diagram below)

Those who would like to receive communion at their seats should simply let the greeters know and the ministers will come to you.

Help Wanted

If you are looking for ways to help out in the life of Christ Church, there are many! New greeters and camera operators are always welcome. We could also use a few more acolytes (there is no upper age limit on that!) a thurifer or two and Lay Eucharistic Ministers. (LEM's must be confirmed or received members of the Episcopal Church). Of course there are many other ways to serve as well! Just speak to Fr. Bill.

Dedications

Flowers on the High Altar may be dedicated to loved ones by members of the congregation. Please call the office with the name(s) you wish to commemorate and the Sunday you prefer. A donation is requested; the church provides the flowers.
