Microsoft 365 And Window 10 Support Status

Not too long back, there was quite the dust up created by a Microsoft document that was released and the interpretation of said document. This related to the support status for 365 apps on Windows 10 in the future and how it might impact the applications. The good news: it's not as bad as you may have thought.

Microsoft had reportedly planning to end support for Microsoft 365 when it officially discontinues support for Windows 10 in 2025. As part of their strategy to push users toward newer operating systems, early reports expected to shift its focus to Windows 11.

Luckily for many, the original reports were sensationalized and that does not appear to be the case right now. The latest clarifications is that 365 will not cease working on Windows 10, so users should not be too concerned about headlines with the outdated data that include otherwise. That said, looking at Windows 11 upgrades is still something to keep in mind.

The good news with this is that, for years, even new computers that came running Windows 10 out of the box were actually “Windows 11 Downgrade” units. That means most reasonably new computer systems can be upgraded to Windows 11 inherently, though the process may take some time and, as with any update, there are bound to be users that don’t like things not being the way they were before.

A note to consider on this is that large plans like this seem to change not infrequently, so keep your eyes open for updates on them. If you’d like to discuss how this could impact your business or would like to contact us about future updates you notice, please feel free to contact our office.
