A Note from Neil

Hello and Hadih.

This year, Chamber office manager Natasha Edwards has been working to integrate AI into our operations to help make us faster and more efficient, particularly with our communications. As someone who wrote for a living for all of my professional life before joining the Chamber last year, I’ve been both amazed and alarmed at the potential of these new tools in the workplace.

Natasha is currently training her AI assistant to streamline processes in her daily workflow and plans to have AI assistants in place for membership manager Colleen Sparrow and me by the end of the year. The days of me writing this monthly Chamber Chatter update, news releases, reports, and other documents without AI support to speed things along are coming to an end.

And I’m good with that. Not that I (or any of us) have much of a choice. Adaptation and innovation are necessities in the modern business world and the quickest to embrace change and the opportunities it brings are setting themselves up for current and future success. Put another way, innovation helps protects your business and failure to do so adds additional risk to your business.

Thankfully, relationships and partnerships still transcend AI. The Lheidli T’enneh First Nation has formal partnerships with four local groups – the Chamber, Tourism Prince George, the Prince George Airport, and the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club. Chief Dolleen Logan and council members hosted the four groups for a partnership dinner last month at the House of Ancestors, where we got to know each other better and talked about how we could continue to work together to benefit the broader community. Kevin Brown calls that “reconcili-action” and I couldn’t agree more.

I’ve had the pleasure over the past year of working with and getting to know Colin Carson from Tourism Prince George and Dr. Geoff Payne at UNBC. As many of you already know, they are leaving Prince George later this year to pursue amazing opportunities. I’m thankful to both of them for their devotion to Prince George and wish them all the best. We’re not losing them so much as sending them out into the world as Prince George ambassadors, another key task that AI can’t do quite yet.

All the best to you and your business,

Neil
