Shower of Roses

In Rome on Pentecost, there is a beautiful and old custom of dropping rose petals through the circular oculus opening at the top of the Pantheon dome (see video below). The petals fall to the crowds below, reminiscent of the coming of the Holy Spirit—like tongues of flame.

Pentecost commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Virgin Mary and the Apostles during the Feast of Weeks in Jerusalem, and the rose petals symbolize this poignant moment in Christian history.

Join us at the 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, May 28, which will include a rose petal shower during the recessional at the end of the liturgy.

Your urgent attention is needed to bring

perpetual adoration back to Saints Peter and Paul

RE Registration Information

Join Us!

If you have an upcoming first- or second-grade student who is not currently registered for religious education or for the parish school, we invite you to join our program! It’s designed to engage students in the Catholic faith, not only preparing them for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation, but also providing ongoing instruction and faith-sharing each year.

The Diocese of Joliet requires two years of preparation prior to receiving a sacrament, which means that children typically start preparing for First Communion in first or second grade. Students begin preparing for Confirmation no later than 6th grade.

Memorial Day

The Memorial Day Mass at the Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 29, is the only Mass that will be celebrated that day. Please bring lawn chairs for seating at the Memorial Day Mass.

There will be no 5:15 p.m. Mass on Monday. Confessions will not be heard on Memorial Day, and the parish office will be closed.
