A Sweet Night of Celebration

Volunteer Appreciation and Amazing Cake Bakers and Cakes

Last weekend, Birthday Dreams hosted a truly sweet celebration as we combined our Volunteer Appreciation Night with the return of our Sweet Dreams Cake Competition, which was last held in 2019. Volunteers, staff, supporters, and talented bakers gathered for an evening dedicated to the people who help bring birthday joy to children experiencing homelessness.

The night was filled with laughter, games, music, delicious food, and some show‑stopping cakes. Guests voted for their favorites, bid in the “Take the Cake” silent auction, and cheered on our bakers as awards were announced. A heartfelt thank‑you to our celebrity judges, Jasmin Bell Smith and Emily Kim, for lending their expertise, and to DJ Zackary Strauss for keeping the energy high all evening. Event photos can be viewed here.

We are incredibly grateful to every baker who donated their time, talent, and creativity. Congratulations to this year’s winners!

This is Why We Do It

Recently, we were able to help a family experiencing homelessness provide their child with a birthday to remember. The mother said,

"I did not have enough money to give my child a birthday party. I asked Birthday Dreams for help because I wanted my daughter to feel happy, loved and special on her birthday. My daughter was happy and excited. She smiled a lot and talked about her party all the time. It made her feel special and important. She was so excited to celebrate with other children. This party brought joy, smiles and hope to our family during a difficult time. We truly appreciate [Birthday Dreams'] kindness, love and support...and for me, it brought peace knowing my daughter had a beautiful birthday memory. "

With your continued support, we are committed to bringing hope and joy to the community we serve through the gift of a birthday celebration.

Kids Helping Kids | Hailey Wong

Hailey Wong first discovered Birthday Dreams through a cousin when she was young, and during 8th grade after joining the National Charity League, a mother‑daughter service organization, she learned more about Birthday Dreams and was excited to get involved. Hailey said, “Baking has been a passion of mine. I love trying new recipes, experimenting with decorations, and improving my skills. Seeing my older cousins bake while also helping children inspired me to get involved with Birthday Dreams. It felt like the perfect way to combine my love for baking with my interest in giving back and making others happy. Being able to share that experience with my mom (Lisa) has made it even more meaningful, and it’s become something we truly enjoy doing together.”

Hailey began by baking and selling treats at her school’s winter market, using the proceeds to purchase supplies for Birthday Dreams cakes. Today, she and her mom not only bake the cakes—they often deliver them too.

Her favorite part?

“Seeing the child open the door and light up with excitement is incredibly rewarding. Their smiles and happiness make all the effort worth it, and it always leaves me feeling really fulfilled.”

Hailey encourages others to volunteer as well:

“I would definitely encourage others to get involved. The team at Birthday Dreams is so kind and welcoming, especially Jordan, who is very supportive of new volunteers. It’s a really meaningful way to give back while doing something you enjoy.”

A Bellevue resident, Hailey is finishing her freshman year at the International School. She serves as a big buddy in the Roots & Shoots program, volunteers with International Buddy supporting neurodivergent children, enjoys baking and traveling, and even shadows at a local dental office as she explores a future in dentistry.

We are grateful for young leaders like Hailey, and for parents like Lisa, who inspire and support youth philanthropy.

Community Support and Recognition

We are so incredibly thankful for our amazing community and the support you continue to show. Birthday Dreams relies on the generosity and dedication of people like you to make our mission possible. From assembling goody bags, to crafting party hats, to organizing toy drives and so much more — your time, energy, and effort truly make a difference. We appreciate you more than words can express.

Theta Tau

Naomi Yoon, Recruitment Chair for Theta Tau, a co-ed professional engineering fraternity at the University of Washington, contacted Birthday Dreams hoping to find an opportunity for students to actively give back during Philanthropy Night in April. Thanks to the generosity of Theta Tau, students spent the evening assembling goody bags for the kids we support.

Vistex

We were so happy to welcome back Vistex to the Birthday Dreams office for another day of volunteering. They are always ready to jump in and help with whatever our current need may be, but this visit was a little different.

We asked the younger volunteers to make a sign for the upcoming Volunteer Appreciation Night and were thrilled with the outcome! They did such a great job and their sign was used in the Birthday Dreams Selfie Wall.

AvalonBay Communities Bellevue, Lynnwood, and Redmond

We were excited to be part of this year’s Vollapalooza with AvalonBay Communities at three different locations! Whether they were making goody bags, party hats, or friendship bracelet kits, their teams fully embraced the mission — creating fun, thoughtful party favors designed to help kids experiencing homelessness feel celebrated on their birthday.

CAF

The CAF Service Committee is dedicated to creating opportunities for their team to give back through volunteer work and community service. They are passionate about making meaningful impact while supporting and strengthening the communities they serve. We are grateful to have been included in their monthly service project. They generously purchased supplies, printed templates, and even included their remote locations so more team members could take part in supporting Birthday Dreams.

T-Mobile Legal

Stephanie Correia brought the T-Mobile legal team and their families together to make almost 600 goody bags! Creating two volunteer shifts made it possible for even more people to participate, and it was wonderful to once again be part of their Bring Your Kids to Work Day.One of the highlights of the day was watching a young volunteer fully take charge of the goody bag assembly line — filling bags, adding extra stickers where needed, and making sure bows were ready to help close each one. His enthusiasm kept the project moving and brought so much energy to the room.

Microsoft Supply Chain

Shivtej Shete from Supply Chain at Microsoft brought his team back together for several days of meetings, and we were honored to be part of their schedule.

To wrap up their time together, the team participated in a service project supporting Birthday Dreams and created 175 birthday party hats for children experiencing homelessness. Each hat was made with creativity and care, adding a fun and festive touch to future birthday celebrations.

At Birthday Dreams, we believe that every child deserves to feel special on their birthday. We work tirelessly to bring hope, joy, and a sense of self-worth to homeless children with the gift of a birthday party. We understand that a birthday party may seem like a small gesture, but to these children, it means the world.

Our parties are more than just cake and presents. They are a celebration of life, of resilience, and of the human spirit. They are a reminder that no child is forgotten, and that every child deserves to be seen, heard, and loved.

Thank you to all our donors and volunteers who bring so much joy to the children we serve.
