MUSIC MINISTRY

Calling YOUNG SINGERS!

Our amazing soprano soloist, Anne Burgett, will be working with a group of young singers from the Old North community, to prepare a very special musical offering which will be presented at the 5pm service on Christmas Eve! Rehearsals will begin in late October. If you have a conflict on Christmas Eve but are still interested in singing, there will likely be an opportunity to sing at one of the 10am Sunday services in December. As we prepare for this exciting initiative, we’d be so pleased to hear from you – specifically, children in grades 2 through 8. Rehearsal times and age-appropriate repertoire will be determined based on responses. If you are interested, please contact Anne Burgett at: annieburgett88@gmail.com. Parents can meet Anne on Sunday, October 18 at COFFEE HOUR to sign up and inquire more about the program.

If you would like to join the choir in singing for Reverend Christine Hribar's Installation Service on Sunday, November 1, at 2pm, please contact Maria vanKalken at vankalken@gmail.com. All singers are welcome!

The goal of OWL is to provide comprehensive, inclusive sexuality education that is developmentally appropriate for all different ages and life stages, from Kindergarten to older adulthood. OWL dismantles stereotypes and assumptions, build self-acceptance and self-esteem, fosters healthy relationships, and improves decision making. Register here!

COMMUNITY LIFE

The October display in the Narthex features the fish symbol as an important icon in world cultures. Highlighted is the Golden Cod, for both its Marblehead history and our own gilded weathervane which dates from 1695.

It is being restored and will soon fly again on top of our newly renovated steeple. How wonderful it is to have this enduring treasure remind us of our church’s and our town’s legacy.

The Old North Green Team is kicking off an initiative to allow our collective voices to be heard when changes to local and state policies are under consideration that can have a significant environmental impact. By opting-in, you will receive an alert from the Green Team when state or local officials are debating such changes. The message will include a link to a pre-written but editable email to the relevant officials that you can add your name to. By making them aware of our concern for the environment, we can help influence their decisions. If you want to be one of our advocates, please let us know at greenteam@onchurch.org.

The Green Team is back meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 9:30am in the Great Room.

However, in October we'll be meeting on the 3rd Wednesday, October 21.

This fall, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum is presenting the exhibit “The Book of Esther in the Age of Rembrandt,” which should be of interest to the Old North Church members.

We hope to schedule two events connected to the exhibition. Reverend Christine Hribar will have a class on the book of Esther on Thursday November 19 from 9-10AM. On December 3, we hope to plan a private tour at the Gardner Museum with the possibility of lunch there as well.
