Tai Chi Vermont

SEPTEMBER 2026

Inhale ... and exhale. As we head into Metal Season, remember to spend a little extra time focusing on your breath while you practice. Chinese Medicine declares this the season of our Lungs and Large Intestines, the organs tasked with purification and letting go.

As you move, notice when you're called to draw in breath ... and when your body is ready to release. Remember that tai chi is a full-body practice, so it's more than just these two organs doing the work.

Try drawing in breath from the soles of your feet as you initiate a move ... then letting it go from the palms of your hands as you settle. What attracts your attention now?

September is Fall Prevention Awareness Month

This year Fall Prevention Awareness Day is Tuesday, Sept. 22, during Fall Prevention Awareness Week Sept. 21-25. That makes this month the perfect time to talk about how tai chi keeps us mobile and confident on our feet.

Did you miss our recent Zoom review of The Science of Tai Chi and Qigong as Whole-Person Health conference? On our website you'll now find a recording of our discussion, a useful collection of research findings, and a list of abstract and poster resources so you can dig further into studies that pique your interest--including info on frailty, gait stability and more. We hope these evidence-based materials support you as you talk with others about the benefits of tai chi this month.

Let us know what you're doing to mark this important day this year--we can promote your event on the News & Special Events section of our website--and do share your photos!

We've got more
Level 2 teachers!

Big congrats to the latest group of teachers who certified to teach level 2 of Fall Prevention Tai Chi (simplified Sun style) at St. John's Episcopal Church in Randolph this summer.
It's on to level 3 ...

Before registering for an event below ...

Each event requires a minimum of five registrants per teacher to run. If we don't get the required number of signups, sessions must be cancelled. Some Zoom-only and hybrid sessions (those offered both online and in-person) include a recording, whether participants are able to attend live or not. So please sign up if you're interested in the topic but can't join live--you can watch the recording on your schedule.

Trainers put a lot of time and energy into planning events for you.
Thanks for following the link(s) below to register early!

Remember: Workshops can help you maintain your TCV instructor status.
You must attend at least three hours of in-person Enrichment or Skillbuilder workshops
in the two years between recertifications.

Ellie Hayes and Zhen Wolffe will host this Enrichment Workshop at St. John's Episcopal Church in Randolph, 9 a.m.-noon, Friday, Oct. 9.

This workshop is designed for participants who want to dive deeper into the mind-intent or energetic source for the eight methods, martial arts techniques that are embedded in most Tai Chi forms. Form review practice will be enhanced by guided explorations of the meridian points that may serve as interconnecting focal points for rooting us in the posture and issuing effortless force.

Step, follow step: Drills for exploring, teaching and inhabiting the Fall Prevention Tai Chi form

Beverly Blakeney and Zhen Wolffe will host this Skillbuilder at St. John's Episcopal Church in Randolph, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 16.

In this workshop we'll explore movements and practices to enhance our awareness of the Fall Prevention form. Drills are repetitive movements that help create body memory. Tai Chi instructors can use them to support their students in learning the form.

Bring your favorite drill to share--as well as your curiosity--and we’ll explore ways of feeling our way into the Fall Prevention form and inviting our students to do the same.

Remember, if you’re a Tai Chi Vermont volunteer instructor be sure to enter the special Skillbuilder code you received so you can check out for $0. Forgot the code? Click here to request it again.
