Implications for Projects Across New York:

Inside the Newest Electrical Code Updates

Recent electrical code updates in New York are doing more than updating requirements. They are changing how projects are designed and delivered.

With New York State adopting the 2023 NEC and New York City updating its own code, teams are already seeing impacts in system layouts, equipment sizing, and coordination during permitting and construction.

Many of these changes are not obvious upfront, but they can lead to costly adjustments if missed early.

See what is changing and how it could affect your next project!

Not Just a Safety Upgrade

What began as a routine safety upgrade evolved into a more tailored, forward-looking solution. Initially, driven by an insurance requirement to address electrical panel fire risks, our assessment revealed a broader picture with aging infrastructure and systems operating near or above capacity.

Rather than defaulting to a one for one replacement, we took the time to step back with the client and evaluate the system holistically. By aligning immediate safety needs with long-term goals, the approach began to expand beyond the original scope.

The result was a comprehensive electrical upgrade that improved safety, corrected non-compliant conditions, and expanded system capacity while also preparing the building for future electrification, including a potential transition to electric cooking.
