Communicate with Confidence:
Secure Tools for Research Collaboration

A tip from the Rutgers Research Security team

Secure collaboration is critical to research. Communication tools (email, online conferencing, or other software) operated by companies affiliated with foreign governments may present compliance, data protection, and research security risks, particularly in federally funded or export-controlled research.

Rutgers IT provides researchers approved platforms that align with University policies and research security standards. If you are considering another technical tool, the Information Security Office (ISO), through its Cybersecurity Risk Management Program, can help determine whether a security review is needed and provide guidance on applicable cybersecurity policies and compliance requirements. Reach out to the Rutgers Research Security Office for more information on protecting your research.
