You're welcome. We saved 1031 Exchange. Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of the FEA and its industry partners, §1031 has escaped the ax once again.
In the other sense of the phrase, I want to emphasize that you are welcome! The FEA is an inclusive organization that empowers all members to advance and enrich their careers through participation in events and learning opportunities, including the CES certification. Another great way to maximize the benefits of your membership is to join a committee. Your contributions will strengthen our association and enhance your professional development.
We need new members to get involved and carry on the vital work of the FEA. In 2022, we are focusing on expanding our association by spreading this message to qualified intermediaries who have not yet joined the FEA. To support this initiative, we are adding three membership categories to broaden the body of our association.
- Lifetime: an honorary membership awarded to those who have contributed significantly to the organization.
- Professional: perfect for CPAs or other professionals doing exchange-related work who are not qualified intermediaries.
- Individual: an option for the employees of our corporate members who are interested in participating at an individual level.
In the new year, we are also committed to staying on our war footing. The battle to convince the legislature that §1031 should not be eliminated or modified required an enormous expenditure on lobbying and studies. However, we anticipate that members of Congress — on both sides of the aisle — will continue looking for perceived revenue raisers, which means §1031 remains vulnerable.
To rebuild our coffers, we are asking that all association members pay their annual dues and, whenever possible, contribute above-and-beyond this amount. If each member matches their dues with an equivalent donation, we will have the necessary resources to preserve our industry.
If we work together, we can maintain the vibrant 1031 industry where everyone can thrive. As the incoming president of the FEA, I reiterate that you are welcome: you are welcome to participate, to support our organization financially, to proudly proclaim the importance of §1031, and the work we do together at FEA to protect this unique industry.
