Dear Rondout Families, Friends and Faculty,
Congratulations to the Class of 2024! They did an amazing job at last night's graduation. We wish them all the best as they move on to high school. It was a wonderful time for our 8th grade families to celebrate the achievements of their students.
Rondout’s exceptional faculty and staff are one of our greatest assets. We have a very experienced staff that continues to grow professionally and who focus on best practice to address the needs of the whole child. This year will be the first time in many years that we will have multiple position changes. due to retirements and internal changes. The Board of Education approved our new hires and the revised personnel plan at Tuesday's meeting. I am pleased to share the personnel news highlighted below.
As the year comes to a close we bid a fond farewell to Ms. Janet Parkerson (33 years) and Ms. Susie Sendejas (20 years) who will be retiring from teaching at the end of this school year. We wish them all the best as they begin this new stage of their lives.
Another upcoming change will impact our office team deeply, as Mrs. Mary Amidei will be joining her husband in retirement after a long and successful career in schools. We know that travel, fun and enjoying their grandchildren are on their retirement agenda. We wish them a happy healthy time enjoying life and family.
While all these amazing individuals will be impossible to replace, we have been fortunate to find the following individuals to fill the void left by these superstars in their respective roles. The Board of Education has approved the following recommended appointments for the upcoming 24-25 school year.
Ms. Amy Flanagan will be joining us after a successful four years of teaching in a neighboring district to be the Upper School science and math teacher. You may ask, why that name sounds familiar. Well Amy is actually a Rondout alumni and we are proud to have her join us to continue her professional journey.
Mr. Daniel Wood joins us as the ELL/Special Education/Intervention teacher for grades K-8. Teaching is a second career for Mr. Woods and he has had an exceptional experience teaching in North Chicago. A lifelong learner Mr. Wood will enrich our team in many ways.
Mrs. Jennifer Heavrin will be a new face in the office and you will all get to know her in no time. Jennifer has had a wealth of experience both in school and municipal settings and has a passion for work in schools. That desire to return to the school setting brought her to us when she learned of the vacancy. She will serve as the district administrative assistant to the Superintendent as well as the secretary to the Board of Education. Her enthusiasm, empathy and experience will help make the transition go smoothly and help keep our office running smoothly.
We will also see a change in our fifth grade as Mrs. Lindsey Bornholdt has resigned from her 5th grade position. She is looking forward to the opportunity to have more time to spend with her family. Her last day will be June 3rd and we wish her all the best. That being said, you will be pleased to learn that Ms. Caroline Tesar will be moving into the 5th grade position, While she has taught kindergarten and primary grades in her recent career experiences, she is going back to her teaching roots which we in the middle to upper grades. She is looking forward to reconnecting with the students she had in kindergarten five years ago. We are in the process of interviewing candidates for the kindergarten position. We will keep you posted on our progress.
This year the Summer Extended School Year Program will be taught by Ms. Merdith Carrera who is an experienced and multiply talented Special Education teacher, math interventionist and instructional coach. She is very excited to collaborate with Mrs. Freeburg who will not be teaching ESY this summer but who will be providing information and guidance to Ms. Carrera.
Knowing that many people would like to be able to say good-bye to these Rondout faculty and staff, we invite you to join us for a farewell retirement reception for Mrs. Parkerson, Ms. Sendejas and Mrs. Amidei on Monday June 3rd . Feel free to stop by to say goodbye, good luck or express your gratitude for the ways that they have positively impacted our school community. The retirement reception will be from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.
Have a great week and take care.
Until next time…
