Site Plan for EG Library in Board of Supervisors packet

EG Library on Agenda at Board of Supervisors

The construction bid for the EG library will be on the Board of Supervisors consent agenda for 4/14/2026. This (almost always) means that there's no need for discussion or comment from the public. Our county librarian Hillary Theyer will be in the meeting to answer questions from the Board if they come up. If you'd like to watch and cheer you're welcome to join her at 10am in the Board chambers at 168 W Alisal St, or the zoom link is HERE

EG Library meeting recap

There was a good showing of support at the meeting on 3/25. Our librarians and the project manager explained the layout of the library and answered questions.

Your reporter was out of town, thanks to Dick Stevens for this recap:

  • The library will be located so that the patio is visible from the street and away from the Manzanita housing.
  • There will be wifi available on the patio at all times
  • The community meeting room will be available for use even when the library is closed - note on the drawing how doors can be locked or unlocked so the meeting room and restrooms can be separate from the library.
  • The plan is to have the library (like all small branch libraries) open 18 hours per week
  • The library funding includes 2.5M from the developer and $8M from the Successor Agency.
  • NO Mello Roos funds go to this project. Ongoing operation of the library comes from the County library funding just like all the other libraries in the system
  • Furnishings will be decided closer to completion
  • Target groundbreaking is mid-August 2026, completion December 2027
