Good morning, Kristin,
This week, I share two resources. The first is a follow-up to the letter (Spanish version) that was distributed at the end of last year from the Washington State Catholic Conference and signed by the five bishops of Washington state regarding immigration. Late last week, the Archdiocesan Immigrant and Refugee Ministry shared the following list of resources.
In the bishops’ letter, they state, “During this time of uncertainty and fear, we stand with our immigrant and refugee brothers and sisters. May all our brothers and sisters on the margins, especially migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, know that our parishes are open for prayer, comfort and solace.”
It is my hope as superintendent that each of our families knows this desire for our parishes to serve as spaces open to prayer, comfort, and solace to immigrants and all those facing uncertainty extends to our schools. Our students and families should feel welcome and safe when they drop their children off at school and pick them up each day.
I would ask and encourage you to make use of the resources provided and share them with your community, as they include information for parishes, schools, immigrants and individuals seeking guidance on how they can learn more and help immigrants.

The second letter is from Paul Escala, Senior Director and Superintendent of Schools for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, about the establishment of a tuition relief fund for Archdiocese of Los Angeles Catholic School Families:
Dear Friends in Christ,
Our hearts are broken, but our spirits are high. The needs of the many are great, but in the Catholic school communities impacted by the recent wildfires, our students and families need the stability, pastoral care and formation that only a Catholic school can offer. This is why we need our entire ministry across our nation to focus their efforts to support Catholic school students with assistance to continue their education in our schools.
Your contribution, no matter the size, will help the over 1,000 students whose lives were radically changed remain in our schools. We could not be more grateful for the outpouring of love, support and generosity countless people have demonstrated to our community. We will endure, we will rebuild and we will restore our Catholic school communities.

Thank you and may God bless you.
Paul Escala
Senior Director and Superintendent of Schools
Archdiocese of Los Angeles
For other ways to support the recovery efforts in Los Angeles, the National Catholic Educational Association has shared that you and your schools can also help by contributing to the following disaster relief outlets: Archdiocese of Los Angeles and Catholic Charities USA. Perhaps consider this a Catholic Schools Week service initiative for your schools.
With gratitude,
NICHOLAS FORD | Superintendent
Office for Catholic Schools | Archdiocese of Seattle
