A Letter From Co-presidents Carol Pauley and Kathy Hardy

It’s that time. We’re sure you’ve either voted by mail or are getting ready to vote. But if you haven’t made any plans yet, here are some things to help you get ready:

Check your voting status

You can use the Elections and Voting page at www.maryland.gov to do any of the following:

  • Confirm your registration.
  • Register on-line. If you’re not registered, you can register on-line or at the Worcester County Elections Office on Belt St. in Snow Hill. If you are an eligible non-registered voter, you can also register or update information during early voting or on Election Day. Be sure to bring identification if you choose to register on those days.
  • Request a mail-in ballot. Deadline is October 27 for a ballot to be mailed to you or October 30 for mail-in ballot on-line.
  • Locate your polling place if you will be voting in person on Election Day.

Decide how you will vote:

  • Mail-in or in person.
  • If voting in person, vote early on October 22, 2026 to October 29, 2026 at the Ocean City Convention Center. Or vote on Election Day at your regular polling place, November 3. In both cases, the polls are open 7 am to 8 pm.
  • If choosing mail-in voting, mail the ballot early enough to ensure your ballot is postmarked by Election Day. If it’s getting close to Election Day, to guarantee your ballot gets postmarked on time, take it directly to the post office and ask for a postmark while you wait.
  • Better yet, take your ballot to one of the 3 available drop boxes in Worcester County:
  1. Worcester County Board of Elections, 201Belt St Snow Hill, MD
  2. Roland E. Powell Convention Center, 4001 Coastal Hwy Ocean City, MD
  3. Pocomoke Community Center, 1410 Market St. Pocomoke City, Md

Be informed:

Review your ballot or sample ballot. Visit Vote411.org, sponsored by the League of Women Voters. Read their paper Voting Guide, available in many local businesses in Worcester County to find information that may help inform your voting decisions.

This may seem like simple information, and we may be preaching to the choir. But, if you know a friend, neighbor, or family member who needs voting information, you can be their point person. The key is to get everyone to vote, no matter what their party affiliation. Of course, it would be better if they vote blue…

Our song this month is, needless to say, about voting – Vote ‘Em Out by Willie Nelson (2018).

If you don’t like who’s in there, vote ‘em out

That’s what Election Day is all about

The biggest gun we’ve got

Is called “the ballot box”

So if you don’t like who’s in there, vote ‘em out

We are in this together.

Carol and Kathy

PLEASE NOTE:

LOCATION FOR OCTOBER IS THE ASSATEAGUE ROOM IN THE OCEAN PINES COMMUNITY CENTER

Postcards

We have written:

· over 800 Get Out the Vote postcards - Dist. 1 Pocomoke City.

· Over 650 postcards for Vicky Wallace – Dist. 5 County Commissioner candidate.

We are still working:

· on 500 postcards for Kathy Cater – Dist. 5 School Board

· 1000 postcards for Dan Schwartz for Congress Dist. 1

In addition, members have also written for some of the critical national races.

Worcester County Youth and Family Services has let us use their community meeting room every Wednesday afternoon from July through October free of charge. There are several ways we can help them:

· Community food pantry – they need donations of personal hygiene supplies and nonperishable food. · Donations - https://gowoyo.org/our-programs/how-to-help/

· Volunteering for their mentorship programs.

Election

Members have:

· helped local candidates canvas

· staffed the Democratic office in Snow Hill

· participated in Get Out the Vote honk and waves across the county

· staffed democratic tables at early voting and on election day

PAC Meeting Schedule

There will be no regular Political Action Committee meetings in October, November, or December. During this period, we will focus on postcard writing and get-out-the-vote activities. We will meet only if a critical need arises. We will regroup in January, refreshed and ready to plan our goals for a non-election year.

STOP THE LIVE STREAM

From DWC Member Jan Adamchak

If you are as incensed as I am over Hegseth's (Secretary of Defense) proposal to live stream an execution please call as many Republican Senators and Congressmen as you can. If you don't want to speak directly with a representative and just leave a message, the weekends and holidays are a great time to call. Leave your name and a short message, keep it short and speak firmly but quietly. If I am not in the representative's district, I try not to say whether or not I am a constituent. To get the directory, google “list of phone numbers for US Senators (or Congressmen) 2026,' and select the phone # listed. It is much faster than writing post cards.

Let's flood them with phone calls!

Other topics you may want to call about include: Trump's deal with Russia to purchase oil despite sanctions, Trump blaming Zelensky, and ICE thugs.

Charles T. Tarr's editorial about Andy Harris' inconsistent take on the gas tax was published in both the Bayside Gazette and Ocean City Times-Dispatch

Harris once called tax move a "stunt"

Tish Michaels article about protecting the Chesapeake Bay appeared in the OC Times-Dispatch. "Protecting the bay a shared responsibility"

*****************************************

The following was written by Tahya Marte for her Facebook blog. Tahya and her family live in our community. She and her husband both worked in restaurants in the Berlin and Ocean City area. Recently Tahya's husband was and remains detained by ICE. She wrote about this in her blog and has given permission for it to be shared:

I  honestly cannot believe this is the America we are living in right now.

Watching what is happening to immigrants and families across this country has made me angry, heartbroken, and honestly disgusted. I don’t think enough people truly understand what mass deportation actually looks like when it stops being a political talking point and becomes a real person being taken away from their wife and children.

Policy has become more important than people. Politics has become more important than families. And somehow, we have gotten so caught up in the circus that we’ve forgotten there are HUMAN BEINGS behind these policies.

Immigrants are not just numbers or headlines. They are the people you have worked beside for years. They are the people who came here as students, who worked, paid bills, raised families, built businesses, cleaned homes, cut lawns, worked in restaurants, built houses, and helped keep this community running.

Ocean City! You know exactly who I’m talking about!!

You worked alongside these people. You trusted them. You depended on their work. Their labor put money in your pockets and helped businesses thrive. But suddenly, when they are no longer convenient, some people act like they don’t belong here. (you know exactly who you are)

My husband is not a statistic.

He is a husband. He is a father. He is a provider. He is a human being who has worked hard, built a life, and contributed to this community. And now my children and I are living with the consequences of an immigration system that has taken their father away from them.

America failed my family & with no fair trial.

To the people who support these policies without taking the time to understand what they actually mean for families like mine. I hope you stop for a moment and look beyond the politics. Look beyond the flags, the slogans, and the circus.

Look at the families.

Look at the children.

Look at the mothers who are suddenly trying to figure out how to survive without the person who helped keep their family together.

And to the people who love Sunset Grille so much and support everything happening right now remember that my husband helped run that kitchen. He poured his time, energy, and hard work into that restaurant. His coworkers and the people there know exactly what he contributed. And they have made it clear that it will not be the same without him.

You can have your political beliefs. You can disagree with me. But I will never stop speaking about what is happening to my family.

Because this isn’t politics to me anymore.

This is my husband.

This is my children’s father.

This is my family.

And I will fight for my family every single day.

On Judgment Day, God doesn’t like ugly. What you put into this world your cruelty, your judgment, your lack of compassion matters. I hope when that day comes, you can live with the way you treated people who were simply trying to build a better life.

“Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”

Mark 12:31
