As we close out September and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we wanted to share some exciting news about the debut of therapeutic tools and programming that will help children and families facing challenging treatment journeys beyond September. Get Well Map Foundation is actively engaged in evolving & inspiring work to help kids and families that are navigating extremely challenging medical journeys. With collaboration provided by Jennifer Kelley, Child Life Specialist with Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, artist John Donato, and through the generosity of the Schwartz Family and Pohanka Pays It Forward we are so excited & honored to share with you this debut of "Courage Coaster". This new Get Well Map is based on concepts of “Chemo Coaster”, a game created by Ted, a brave childhood cancer fighter, as he strived to communicate the "ups and downs" of his (and his family's) deeply personal battle with cancer. The concept of being "thrown for a loop", or "going up, down and all around" is one that resonates with many families that have journeyed through difficult medical challenges...including our own. We hope this newest theme will resonate with tweens & teens, and honor Ted’s memory by building on his desire to improve communication between kids, families & medical teams throughout difficult medical challenges.
Pediatric Oncology Milestone Stickers have arrived! Each sticker sheet includes 40 re-positionable stickers that are adhered to the path of the child's Get Well Map by the medical team (1-3 at a time). Developed through the collaborative efforts of OT, Child Life, & graphic artist Ray Daminger...
Medical Milestones are color-coded by category: Clinical, Medical Education, Home Transition, ADL/Physical Needs, & Social Emotional. These stickers are selected by the care team to help children & families visualize & understand milestones that need to be addressed along their individualized treatment journey. Engaging visual support to help facilitate therapeutic communication and active engagement in the care and discharge planning process. Contact us for more info!
Get Well Maps always feature a "Neutral Zone" to help normalize setbacks in progress that often occur during challenging medical journeys. With "Courage Coaster", healthcare professionals can encourage therapeutic, creative expression by providing a tangible, communication tool and method that tweens & teens can personalize & color as they track their medical progress.
Please consider supporting our efforts with a tax-deductible contribution to honor those that have been impacted by childhood cancer, and improve communication between kids, families & medical teams in the midst of difficult medical challenges.
