BOUTIQUE

The best rooms have something you can't find anywhere else.

Boutique design is the art of the singular—pieces made in small runs, finished by hand, and built to a designer's exact specification rather than a warehouse forecast. It's the hand-applied vellum, the bespoke wood finish chosen to the inch, the chandelier no algorithm could dream up. These are the resources serious designers turn to when a project calls for character over catalog: makers who customize freely, craft to order, and treat each commission as one of a kind.

We've curated a selection of vendors who live in that rarefied space—Mr. Brown London, Julian Chichester, Branch Home, Abner Henry, South + English, and Roberta Schilling.

Mr. Brown

Unique Finds + Customization

  • The St. Tropez Canopy Bed frames the room like architecture, its clean four-poster silhouette pairing an upholstered headboard with hand-finished pine in White Smooth Gesso, White Rustic Pine, or Rustic Grey Pine.
  • A jewel box of a piece, the Crosby 4 Drawer Chest / Sideboard layers Navy Shagreen with an Aged Mirror top and Light Aztec Gold banding — quiet glamour that reads equally well as a bedroom chest or a dining-room sideboard.
  • Five graduated tiers of clear Lucite cascade from an Aged Brass frame on the Aberdeen 5 Tier Chandelier, catching and scattering light — a sculptural centerpiece for a dining table or grand entry.
  • Tailored and refined, the Maddox Counter Stool pairs a Dark Walnut frame with subtle brass detailing and a fully upholstered seat, available stationary or swivel.

Julian Chichester

Hospitality, contract, craftsmanship, bespoke, and customization.

  • The sculptural Angel Console curves a slim top over a thin Aged Brass foot, offered in soft Quarter Sawn Bleached Oak or hand-applied Black Vellum.
  • The Bembridge Games Table is built for serious play, flipping from Red Leather to a Bocote, Ebony, and Maple chessboard to Green Baize, with pull-out drinks holders on all four sides.
  • The Tio Chest banded in raw Brass against high-gloss lacquered Vellum, available in Black or White, with four self-closing drawers of concealed storage.
  • Equally inspired by Saarinen and Brancusi, the Dakota Dining Table pairs a hand-beaten brass or bronze base with richly figured wood tops in finishes from Santos Rosewood to French Oak Limed.

Branch Home Designs

Unique designs

  • The Manchester Canopy King Bed frames the room in clean, architectural lines, fully upholstered and wrapped here in textural Celadon Grasscloth — made to order with customizations available.
  • The Queens Console makes a sculptural statement in Stamped Antique Brass, its sweeping arched legs reading as both architecture and art.
  • The Nell Console curves a continuous ribbon of Wire Brushed Honey Ash into an open, sculptural silhouette that floats its top with quiet drama.
  • The Charlotte Chandelier showers the room in playful Multi-Colored Lucite petals suspended on warm brass, a joyful jolt of color overhead.

Abner Henry

Designer collaborations and the Met Collection.

  • Channeling the quiet luxury of Northern Italy, the Dwayne Bergman Treviso Sideboard layers banded Red Oak with subtle classical detailing and King's Gold hardware for serene, modern refinement.
  • The Dwayne Bergman Roma Credenza evokes the Eternal City with curved Red Oak and Maple, warm tones, and a refined two-door silhouette that brings classical grandeur into contemporary rooms.
  • The Sasha Bikoff 2.0 Roxana Side Table intertwines Amish craftsmanship with Memphis Milano whimsy, balancing a glass top on three playfully mismatched Red Oak legs.
  • Inspired by Seurat's pointillist Circus Sideshow, the Met Collection Severine Console Table renders a pixelated tabletop in oxidized, fumed end-grain oak set at varying heights atop sculptural 100% brass legs — a limited edition of 70.

South + English

Original art from South, bespoke customization on anything.

  • The Art Tank Tall cabinet turns storage into a gallery, framing an original DJE painting within a swanky solid oak case.
  • Named for the opera diva, the Callas Bookshelf carries the same drama with vertically ribbed door fronts and a grounded plinth base, bench-made in your choice of bespoke wood finish.
  • The Helena Twin 4-Poster Bed ascends on tall, faceted posts to an optional hand-wrought metal canopy, fully customizable in five metal finishes and any bespoke wood.
  • Inspired by a midcentury French find, the Kelso Coffee Table and Ottoman is three interlocking pieces that lock together as a sculptural center or break apart into a cocktail table and extra seating.

Roberta Schilling

Brazilian-inspired, one-of-a-kinds, and Indonesian craft, marking 30 years.

  • The Judi Console balances glass over lacquer, offered across a deep range of lacquer tones and Black or Walnut wood for a sleek, gallery-ready profile.
  • The Canela Lounge Chair is a sculptural, inviting seat upholstered in your choice of fabric or leather, grounded on Oak Black, Oak Natural, or Walnut.
  • The Bob Dining Table is a clean-lined, sculptural anchor for the dining room, true to Roberta Schilling's Brazilian-inspired design language.
  • The Indo Bamboo Twist Floor Lamp spirals an organic, hand-worked column into a striking vertical accent, offered in Black or Natural.

INNOVATIONS

Façade Collection

The Façade Collection draws from the architectural and artistic traditions of ancient Greece and Rome, exploring classical antiquity through a modern lens. Disciplined geometry, woven construction, and textural depth recall the craftsmanship of earlier civilizations. Neoclassical motifs and enduring forms shape a collection rooted in precision and materiality.

Inspired by drapery, fluted columns, and weathered stone, our Spring 2026 collection is grounded in refined neutrals and warm tones—carrying the past forward with clarity and restraint. Handwoven fibers, murals, faux plaster finishes, and embossed or digitally printed surfaces appear alongside new acoustic wallcoverings, where time-honored processes meet modern technology.

VAHALLAN

Where fine art meets functional decor, Vahallan crafts hand-painted wallcoverings exclusively for the trade from its Lincoln, Nebraska studio. Every artisan panel and block is built through proprietary painting, distressing, and embellishing techniques no digital print can replicate—and because each order is made by hand, designers command full control over color, pattern, and scale for high-end residential and commercial commissions. Vahallan's signature pre-torn paper formats install collage-style for a seamless, dimensional surface that masks wall imperfections while making a striking, tactile statement.

RUGS SPOTLIGHT

Understanding Wool Types in Hand-Knotted and Loomed Rugs

Wool remains the gold standard for quality rugs, valued for its durability, resilience, and natural beauty. However, not all wool fibers perform the same, making material selection an important consideration for designers.

New Zealand Wool is among the most popular choices. Its long, uniform fibers create a soft feel and excellent color clarity. Durable and naturally stain-resistant, it performs well in living rooms, bedrooms, and family spaces, though some initial shedding is common.

High-Mountain Wool (often sourced from Tibet or the Himalayas) contains higher lanolin levels, providing exceptional resilience and a luxurious texture. It is well suited for primary living areas and formal spaces but typically comes at a premium price.

British Wool is coarser and more rugged than finer wools. While less soft underfoot, it offers outstanding durability, making it ideal for entryways, hallways, stair runners, and other high-traffic areas.

Merino Wool is prized for its exceptionally soft fibers and refined appearance. Best suited for bedrooms and low-traffic spaces, it is less resistant to crushing and wear than coarser wool varieties.

Blended Wools combine fibers from multiple sources to balance softness, durability, and cost. Their performance varies by blend composition.

When specifying wool rugs, designers should match fiber characteristics to a room's traffic level, balancing aesthetics, comfort, and longevity for the best long-term results.
