Upon Being Moved by a Song of a Piece of Music

O Lord, let such melodies penetrate my heart's defenses,

gently revealing old wounds unto unto their eventual healings,

gently stirring eternal longings unto the restoration of hope.

Tune my heart, my mind, my life,

to voice your melodies, O God.

Amen.

January 27 (that's today!) is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birthday! Perhaps the most famous theologian of the 20th century, Karl Barth said this of Mozart: "in Mozart, above all, we hear the music of creation, playful and buoyant, full of both light and shadow, both “Yes” and “No,” but with the “Yes” nevertheless taking precedence. “It may be,” that when the angels go about their task of praising God, they play only Bach. I am sure, however, that when they are together en famille, they play Mozart — and that then, too, our dear Lord listens with special pleasure.” Listen to your favorite song today, and think of how music connects us to God.

You can listen to a selection of Mozart's Mass in C Minor, HERE!

Rite 13 is back on Wednesday, January 28th at 5:30 PM!

And we'll be asking the question: "Why Church?"

After all, the Church can seem irrelevant, out of touch, and disconnected from our real lives. And yet, our catechism affirms that the Church is holy.

We'll talk all about it following supper!

Sunday Morning!

No Sunday School this week...again (hopefully for the last time!)

During Annual Meeting (Take 2!)

Sunday, February 1

During Annual Meeting

Here's what we know:

Alex, the new kid? He didn't take Honey, the beloved class bunny. He was set up by Emma!

But you still have to find the bunny. Two case envelopes remain.

I will have the case files set up in the young adult room downstairs once more if you would like to finish the case!

Weather permitting, of course.

Martin Luther

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

While, we didn't have Sunday School this week - and so, there isn't a lesson to reflect on midweek - the fact that it's Mozart's birthday, has got me thinking about music.

Martin Luther once said: “Experience testifies that, after the Word of God, music alone deserves to be celebrated as mistress and queen of the emotions of the human heart … For if you want to revive the sad, startle the jovial, encourage the despairing, humble the conceited, pacify the raving, mollify the hate-filled … what can you find that is more efficacious than music?”

Why does music succeed in reaching us in ways that the spoken or written word can't? Think about that this week!

For Parents!

Try the parent forum for youth ministry HERE! You’ll need to use your email address to join. And a class code may be required, as well (pwdlelps). Once you enter the site you'll find a new question for the week:

What stories have most influenced you? Have any changed the way that you live? Share what they are and why they had such an impact!
