The third quarter of 2026 was an important period for economic development in Manistee County, with a continued focus on strengthening business relationships, advancing investment opportunities, and building partnerships that support long-term economic growth.

While economic development progress isn't always measured by new businesses or major announcements, much of the work happening behind the scenes is essential to creating future opportunities. This quarter emphasized connecting businesses with resources, understanding the needs of local employers, and positioning Manistee County for continued investment.

Looking ahead, several initiatives are on the horizon:

  • Business Retention & Expansion: Continuing conversations with local employers to better understand their needs, address challenges, and identify opportunities for expansion.

  • Workforce Development: Connecting local students with manufacturing employers through Manufacturing Day in November, introducing the next generation to career opportunities right here in Manistee County.

  • Entrepreneurship & Small Business Growth: Preparing for the inaugural Ignite Manistee pitch competition in December, where five finalists will compete for $5,000 to help bring their business ideas to life.

  • Development & Investment Opportunities: Continuing to work with developers, property owners, and regional partners to advance projects and promote available sites throughout Manistee County.

As we enter the final quarter of 2026, we also prepare for a transition in our economic development leadership with the departure of Director of Economic Development Andrew Stafford. While transitions bring change, our commitment to supporting local businesses, advancing projects, and maintaining the momentum we've built remains strong.

Thank You, Andrew!
