Gallium Nitride and Silicon Carbide Fight for Green Tech Domination
GaN and SiC devices perform better and are more efficient than the silicon components they are replacing. There are countless billions of these devices all over the world, and many of them operate for hours every day, so the energy savings are going to be substantial. The rise of GaN and SiC power electronics will ultimately have a greater positive impact on the planet’s climate than will the replacement of incandescent and other legacy lighting by GaN LEDs. Check out latest spectrum article on how GaN and SiC fight for green tech domination.

Solid-State Power Combining for Heating Small Volumes of Mixed Waste Materials
Microwave heating of waste results in chemical breakdown that can lead to conversion of mixed waste materials to fuel. In this paper, uniform heating is accomplished using mode mixing within a loaded cavity and by spatial power combining of solid-state power amplifiers (SSPAs). A heating comparison of two circuit-combined and spatially-combined 2.45 GHz 70-W 65% efficient GaN SSPAs with controlled relative phase is presented.

Bandwidth-Reconfigurable Coaxial Bandpass Filter with Multioctave Tuning
A bandwidth (BW) tunable coaxial-loaded waveguide filter using a single tuning element is presented in this letter. The operation principle relies on the rotation of coaxial resonators with respect to fixed irises in order to change the inter-resonator coupling strengths that control the BW.

Miniaturized Wide-Stopband FIlter Based on Quadruple-Mode LC Resonator
A miniaturized wide-stopband filter with high-frequency selectivity based on the single-cavity quadruple-mode hybrid resonator is presented. The modified patch with loading slot and metal via is first embedded in the folded substrate integrated waveguide (FSIW) to design the single-cavity quadruple-mode resonator.

A Turnstile Quad-Ridge Orthomode Transducer (OMT) for Octave-Bandwidth Receiver Front-Ends (25-51 GHz)
This paper shows the design, fabrication, and measured results of a turnstile quad-ridge orthomode transducer (OMT) suitable for millimeter-wavelength receivers used in radio telescopes for astronomy. Using a bandwidth of 24–51 GHz, the OMT demonstrated an insertion loss of 0.3–0.4 dB along with cross-polarization leakage and isolation below − 40 dB.

That WAMI Magic - WAMICON 2023
The 2023 IEEE MTT-S Wireless and Microwave Conference (WAMICON) was in Melbourne, Florida, on April 16-17, 2023. One of the highlights of the conference worth highlighting here is the awards. This year, the 2022 MTT-S president, Dr. Rashaunda Henderson, received the Rudolf Henning Distinguished Mentoring Award.

A full list of awards can be found in the Microwave Journal article titled "That WAMI Magic - WAMICON 2023" by Mike Hallman at this link.
