1099 Reporting Threshold Changes in 2027
Beginning January 1, 2027, the federal reporting threshold for certain Forms 1099 will increase from $600 to $2,000. This change may reduce reporting requirements for businesses and payers, but other reporting rules may still apply.

| | New York Secure Choice Savings Program | | |
New York State’s Secure Choice Savings Program requires certain employers to provide employees access to a state-sponsored retirement savings program. Businesses with 10 or more employees that have been operating for at least two years and do not offer a qualified retirement plan must register by November 18, 2026, or establish their own retirement plan.
Already have a SIMPLE IRA through Allied Financial Services? You’re exempt from this requirement. However, you may register with New York State to stop receiving notifications about the program.
We recommend contacting your payroll provider regarding program setup and associated costs. While Allied cannot assist with Secure Choice enrollment, we’re happy to discuss retirement plan options for your business and employees. Visit https://newyorksecurechoice.com/ for details.

Changes to Medicare plans are coming—Open Enrollment is your opportunity to make sure you’re in the plan that fits you best.
If you’re on Medicare, you may have recently received a letter saying your current Medicare plan is changing—or in some cases, even going away. That can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to navigate it alone. Andrea True, our Certified Medicare Agent, is here to walk you through your options and help you find the plan that’s right for you.
Medicare Open Enrollment runs through December 7. To review your options or get guidance, contact Andrea at atrue@alliedfinancialservices.com, 585-410-6733 ext. 103, or click here to schedule an appointment. Appointments are available online, over the phone, or in our Rochester office.
| | NYs Construction Reporting Pay Act | | |
New York State’s new Construction Reporting Pay Act takes effect December 8, 2026, introducing reporting pay and short-notice shift cancellation pay requirements for covered construction employees.
Under the law, covered employees who report to work at their employer’s request or permission generally must receive at least four hours of pay, or their regularly scheduled shift if shorter, at the applicable rate. If a scheduled shift is canceled with less than 12 hours’ notice, covered employees must receive two hours of pay.
What should construction employers do? Review scheduling and cancellation procedures, ensure payroll systems can calculate the required pay correctly, and maintain records of schedules and cancellation notices.
Employers should review the requirements applicable to their workforce, including prevailing-wage projects, and consult with qualified employment counsel regarding specific circumstances.
