Every year, over 550 families across Canada hear the words: "Your child has Kawasaki disease", and for many, this is the first time they have ever heard of the disease. This can cause much worry and panic, but thankfully in many cases Kawasaki Disease Canada is able to provide support through these stressful times.
In 2019, we put out a call to Canadian Kawasaki disease (KD) families and survivors to share their stories with us. We were overwhelmed with the generosity of those who responded and were able to collect and curate 22 stories! Thank you!
Each of the stories shares the bravery and resilience of KD children and their families. We encourage you to read one (or more) of these stories today and learn a little more about the lives that have been touched by this heart-wrenching disease. Some share stories of successful diagnosis, others of numerous misdiagnoses, and still others of tragic undiagnosed cases.
At Kawasaki Disease Canada, we rely on your support...your financial support, but also the support you give us through your words and actions. Never underestimate the power of sharing your knowledge of Kawasaki disease with others. We have seen the power of your actions through the saving of children over and over again in the 5 years since we launched Kawasaki Disease Canada. For that, we are eternally grateful!
Together, we
can
save a child's heart!
