I have been so happy to have Annie aboard for the past two weeks. She departs tomorrow and wanted to offer you her remarks...

Annie's Report

Many of you know I’m more comfortable on a golf course than a boat. As a matter of fact, when enrolled in the Manchester Sailing Association program as a child I faked sick. And then I married Bill. . .

Over the past thirty years we’ve had numerous adventures aboard Tazzarin and many of our other travels have been influenced by Bill’s love of all things maritime. Thanks to Bill, I’ve been ashore on Boon Island and Sable Island, Matinicus Rock , South Georgia Island and Quirpon Island, as well as lots of other out of the way places. We’ve climbed any lighthouse we can and even stayed overnight in some. We’ve sailed all over the coast of Maine and up to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Thanks to Bill, I can identify different species of gulls, gannets, fulmars, sooty and greater shearwaters, dovekies, guillemots and terns. I can tie a bowline, reef a jib, furl a mainsail, and steer a compass course. He’s a great teacher.

And now, thanks to his love of sailing and adventurous spirit, I’m lucky enough to have sailed in Newfoundland. The trip exceeded my expectations. Newfoundland has some of the most beautiful and dramatic coastline in the world. We saw whales, dolphins, any number of seabirds, eagles, tons of jellyfish and more puffins than we could possibly count. We met wonderful people, picked wildflowers, ate fresh cod that was gifted to us and enjoyed busy ports and secluded coves. We learned much about the history of this incredible place. What an adventure. I am eternally grateful for all these experiences.

Tomorrow I start the drive home in Bill’s car while he awaits the arrival of his next crew member. (Another thing I learned about sailing — the logistics can be very complicated!) After a brief stop in Nova Scotia to play a little golf 😀, I will collect Dobby from our friends’ house and we will anxiously await Bill and Tazzarin’s return to Manchester Harbor.

A few photos we chose together are below.
