FFA MEMBERS RECEIVE STATE FFA GRANTS

Congratulations to junior, Zach Olson and freshman, Anna Olson who each received a $1000 Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Wisconsin FFA Foundation Grant. They are the children of Eric and Julaine Olson.

Last year, Zach received a $1000 State SAE grant to purchase a red and white Holstein heifer calf. This year, Zach plans to use his second grant to expand his herd through flushing the red and white heifer he purchased last year. Zach is grateful for the support that he has received from his family and community in developing his supervised agricultural experience project.

Anna will use the money to purchase her first heifer calf to raise to maturity and breed. Anna’s goal is to have four dairy cattle by 2022 when she graduates from high school. Anna thanks her family for the encouragement that they have given her and looks forward to where her supervised agricultural experience project will take her over the next three years.

Successful candidates had to complete a five-page application explaining their SAE program, how much funding they needed, the expected use of those funds, and future goals with their SAE as well as their service in FFA and other school activities.
SDHS PERSONAL FINANCE CLASS
RANKS 55 OUT OF 1020 IN THE NATION
In addition to the class rank, 3 SD students finished in the top 900 and 1 student ranked 1715 out of 23,381 students in the H&R Block Budget Challenge, a 10-week online simulation tool that replicates real-world budgeting and personal finance decision-making.
Students are immersed in the life of a recent college graduate who has been working for six months. Each participant receives a virtual salary and must make smart budgeting decisions regarding expenses, such as rent, utilities, car payments, student loans, and more.
There are realistic surprise scenarios and monetary challenges such as a car accident or lost cell phone.
The Personal Finance class is taught by Mrs. Maree Baumann.
