Director’s Note

As the days grow shorter and the garden begins settling toward early winter, I’m reminded that this quieter stretch of the year is also a time when our view into the future opens up. The darker days give us space to think clearly, plan boldly, and get energized for what’s ahead in 2026: new projects, deeper community impact, and continued care for this place we love. I’m grateful for the many people who help this garden thrive. Wishing you a warm and restful Thanksgiving, and thank you for being part of this community.

Winter Solstice in the Garden

Saturday, December 20th | Candlelight from 5 - 8 pm

Celebrate the return of the light with candlelit paths, glowing branches, a winter spiral, lantern decorating, a crackling fire, and hot drinks. We’ll be open all day, with and with the candlelight from 5–8 pm!

Parking is on nearby sidestreets. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight. This is a free event, supported by donations.

Forest Bathing

Sunday, December 28th at 1 pm

Prepare for the new year with renewed energy and clarity during a guided forest bathing session hosted by Cascadia Forest Therapy. This gentle, mindfulness‑based practice invites you to slow down, awaken your senses, and connect deeply with the rhythms of our four‑acre oasis. If you can’t make the class, you’re invited to drop by the garden and savor this season during any of our open hours. REGISTER TODAY

Garden Art Spotlight: The Night Watchmen

The next time you enter the garden from the parking lot, pause and look to the right, you’ll meet The Night Watchman, a calm yet attentive owl carved by Leon White from Chlorite on Pipestone. This internationally awarded sculpture blends natural stone textures with precise carving. To learn more about Leon’s work click here and to explore art placement at the Kruckeberg, email info@kruckeberg.org.

Plan Your Next Visit: Winter Hours

Even in the coldest, wettest months, you’ll find serendipitous moments of discovery, from mushrooms pushing through leaf litter to winter birds flitting through the understory. Every visit sparks curiosity and connection.

In harmony with the season, our winter schedule is in effect through February. The garden is open Thursday through Sunday, 10 am–3 pm.
