Since 1990, the Michigan Hemingway Society has focused on the Michigan influence in Ernest Hemingway's work,
especially the Nick Adams Stories.

Our society holds an annual Fall Hemingway Weekend in Petoskey, MI
where the Nobel Prize-winning author
spent his boyhood summers.
“When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest. The only thing that could spoil a day was people and if you could keep from making engagements, each day had no limits. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself.” - Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast

The Torrents of Spring
A free 2-Part Community Read of Hemingway’s Novella is Planned for
April 18 & 25 (7pm)

The Village of Walloon Lake, in cooperation with the Michigan Hemingway Society (MHS) and Crooked Tree District Library, is planning its second virtual community read of one of Ernest Hemingway’s books: The Torrents of Spring, which is set in northern Michigan.

On Monday, April 18, MHS President Chris Struble will share photographs and information about the actual sites in Mancelona and Petoskey featured in the novella, which have been designated by Michigan Hemingway Tour historic markers (including the Jesperson’s building, McCarthy’s Barber Shop, Braun Hotel and the Grand Rapids & Indiana Railroad Station, all in downtown Petoskey). International scholar Judy Siegel Henn will then provide a brief reading guide for participants to consider before her primary discussion on Monday, April 25.

Young Hemingway film tour of
classic theaters begins April 21
in Detroit at Redford Theatre
Boyne City finale takes place on Ernie's birthday, July 21

Historian and filmmaker George A. Colburn, president and executive producer of Starbright Media Corporation of Petoskey, Michigan, has announced that his feature documentary on young Ernest Hemingway in Michigan will begin a tour of classic movie theaters in Michigan on April 21 at the Redford Theatre in northwest Detroit.

"Young Hemingway - The Path to Paris" is a 90-minute film that explores young Ernest Hemingway's 20 summers spent in the northwest corner of Michigan's lower peninsula in the early 20th century. The film features the commentaries of Hemingway family members, leading Hemingway scholars, community members who keep the Hemingway spirit alive locally, and best-selling authors Paula McLain and Paul Hendrickson, whose recent books have enlivened the story of young Ernie "up north" in Michigan.

More information is available at www.YoungHemingway.com or by contacting Dr. Colburn via email, gac@starbrightmc.com.
