Annual Property Inspections Temporarily Suspended
We are temporarily suspending annual property inspections as we focus on integrating a new software system. The transition is expected to be completed in time for annual property inspections to resume in March 2027.
The 2027 inspection schedule will be published once the new system is in place.
In the meantime, with winter just around the corner, we encourage residents to take steps to prepare and protect their properties during the colder months. Here are some helpful cold-weather maintenance tips to help preserve your home and prevent potential winter-related issues.
🍂 Winter Maintenance Tips
As colder weather approaches, October is a great time to prepare your home for winter:
- Clean gutters and downspouts to prevent water buildup and ice-related damage.
- Disconnect garden hoses and protect exterior water lines from freezing.
- Service your heating system and replace HVAC filters before temperatures drop.
- Check windows and doors for drafts and damaged weatherstripping.
- Inspect your roof for damaged or missing shingles.
- Trim dead or damaged tree branches that could become hazardous during winter storms.
- Prepare for snow and ice by having ice melt and other winter supplies ready.
Why You May See Community Standards Inspectors in Your Neighborhood:
If you see inspectors out in the field, they may be in your area addressing resident-submitted concerns, following up on previously identified violations, or conducting resale inspections for homes that are being sold.
Questions:
If you have any questions, please contact the Community Standards Department at 703-723-7910 and press #4, or email them at commstandards@ashburnvillage.org.
Other helpful Information:
If you are a new homeowner in the Village, or if you’re unfamiliar with the Architectural and Environmental Guidelines that our Community Standards Inspectors follow, we encourage you to review them ahead of time. Being familiar with the Guidelines is a great way to stay informed.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day: Saturday, October 24, from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Ashburn Station. You can safely dispose of unused or expired medications. Learn more on the DEA Take Back Site.
-
Holiday Scams & Package Theft: With the holiday season approaching, please stay vigilant regarding suspicious activity, unexpected deliveries, and package theft in your area.
-
Low-Light Visibility: As the days get shorter, remember to wear reflective gear or carry a light to stay visible when walking, jogging, or working outside during dark hours.
-
Alert – Phone Scam: Beware of scammers impersonating the Sheriff’s Office. Callers claim you missed jury duty and demand immediate payment over the phone. LCSO will never call to demand payment or threaten arrest over the phone. If you receive one of these calls, hang up immediately and notify the Sheriff's Office.

Ashburn Village Invasive Plant Removal at Pavilion Lake
October 25, 2026 10AM-12PM
With the summer heat soon to be behind us, we'll be starting a little later in the morning. And this one will be a bit of a scavenger hunt! We'll be searching for Bradford pear and white mulberry saplings at Pavilion Lake. We'll also target some invasive species there that we haven't worked much on before, including a new arrival, Chinese penstemon. As always, the more volunteers we have, the more we can accomplish in these last few events of the year.
Join us to learn some new targets, see the beautiful new signs installed by the county about our native plants and wildlife, and enjoy the stunning fall color.

| Fall Yard Tips: Managing Leaves Naturally | |
October is peak season for admiring fall foliage, but as those beautiful leaves begin to fall, it’s easy to think about the work of raking and clearing them from your lawn. Before you grab the rake and bags, consider that those leaves can actually benefit your lawn and the environment in several ways.
Mulch the leaves: Move leaves around trees or garden beds to create a natural mulch. Leaves can help improve the soil, retain moisture, and reduce weeds. Why pay for expensive leaf mulch when you can get it for free?!?!
Compost the leaves: Create a compost pile and let the leaves break down naturally. Over time, they will decompose into nutrient-rich material that can benefit your soil and garden.
Leave the leaves for wildlife: Our native wildlife and insects have been decimated by climate change, development and invasive plants. Leaving leaves allows them to find shelter and hibernate over the winter. To keep your yard looking tidy, you can tuck a pile of leaves behind a bush, place logs around it, or create another discreet area where leaves can naturally accumulate.
A Reminder About Yard Waste Pickup
If you do set out yard waste for pickup, paper bags or a container clearly marked “Yard Waste” must be used. Plastic bags are not permitted. Republic Services will not pick up yard waste placed in plastic bags.
Yard waste pickup is on Mondays only.
For more helpful tips on why leaving the leaves is a smart alternative to bagging and disposing of them, visit the National Wildlife Federation’s Leave the Leaves resource by clicking here.

Ashburn Lake Forebay Retrofit Project
Work in Progress!
Project Information
Loudoun County is currently conducting a water quality improvement project at Ashburn Lake to ensure the lake continues to meet required environmental standards. The project may involve periodic equipment, brief access limitations, or visible work along the shoreline as improvements move forward.
Learn what the project entails here or read more on the Loudoun County Project Page.
Questions or Feedback?
Please submit any questions or comments regarding this project using the Ashburn Lake Forebay Retrofit Project Comment Form, available on the Loudoun County website.
🚧 Trail & Construction Area Reminder
As work continues on the lake and dam improvement project, the affected trail and construction areas remain closed to the public.
We have fencing, barricades, and signage in place to help keep everyone safe. We kindly ask everyone to please stay outside the fenced areas and respect the posted closures by not bypassing, moving, or climbing over any fencing or barricades.
Construction areas can have hazards that aren't always easy to see, so while the work is underway, we invite you to enjoy the trails and other open areas of Ashburn Village.
We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as this important project moves forward. Thank you for helping us look out for our neighbors, families, and project crews and keeping our community safe!
