Orval Day 2023
Saturday, March 25th | All Day
Every year, Merchant du Vin – importers of Orval – designates one a day a year in which a percentage of all sales of Orval will be donated to a select charity. This year’s charity is National Forest Foundation. Orval Trappist Ale was the first Brett beer to land on US shores and has become the favorite beer for many star American brewers. (“Brett” – brettanomyces – is a yeast variety that adds appetizing complexities and dryness.) Orval is brewed to exquisite perfection within the walls of Notre Dame d’Orval Monastery in Belgium. It’s delicious when it leaves the brewery, but also evolves in the bottle for five years or more.

MB Roland Barker's Mill Bottled-in-Bond Kentucky Bourbon
SALE $52.99 Reg. $56.99
Barker’s Mill was built along the West Fork Creek in Christian County, KY, serving as a community focal point for over a hundred years, until it fell into disrepair and was torn down in 1940. In the early 1800s, the mill included a distillery to make use of the grain on site. We honor those early, independent distillers with this vintage styled bottled in bond Bourbon. Distilled using local white corn, red winter wheat, and malted barley, aged on site, blended and bottled unfiltered from the same distilling season.

Basil Hayden Toast Kentucky Straight Bourbon
SALE $52.99 Reg. $57.99
The latest permanent release from Basil Hayden consists of an entirely new brown rice mashbill and a secondary finish in toasted barrels. The result is a bourbon with less spice, and deepened notes of sweet caramel with a bright, light mouthfeel

Basil Hayden Red Wine Cask Finished Kentucky Bourbon
SALE $62.99 Reg. $67.99
A blend of the classic Basil Hayden high-rye mash bill and bourbon partially aged in Californian red wine casks, this special release is ripe with cherries & dried fruit, while also delivering characteristic bourbon flavors of vanilla and charred oak. Perfectly balanced, Basil Hayden Red Wine Cask Finish is layered & complex, yet approachable & inviting.

Barrell Craft Batch 34 Bourbon
SALE $89.99 Reg. $99.99
Barrell Bourbon Batch 034 is a blend of 6, 8, 10, and 15-year-old barrels. 8-year-old barrels driven by strong hazelnut and dark cherry notes lay a foundation enhanced by high-corn barrels showing browned butter and apricot. We mingled this first step for months before adding high-rye barrels carrying cinnamon and allspice. Finally, a vatting of 10 and 15-year-old barrels was added for earthiness and light tannin. The result is a robust and sophisticated bourbon.

Lucky Seven "The Frenchman" Kentucky Straight Bourbon
SALE $89.99 Reg. $99.99
B‍Launched in July, 2022, The Frenchman joins the existing Lucky Seven Spirits lineup. Originating from Kentucky, The Frenchman begins as a straight bourbon that is then finished in new french oak barrels for an undisclosed amount of time.

Lucky Seven "The Holiday Toast" Kentucky Straight Bourbon

WINE OF THE WEEK
Penley Estates
Phoenix
Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra, Australia
2021
$19.99 reg. $21.99
92 Points James Suckling
A complex bouquet full of black fruits and varietal herbs. Blood plum, blackcurrant, anise and fresh thyme with a glimpse of purple flowers. Medium-bodied in structure with a juicy core of ripe fruit flavors. Integrated French oak notes complement the seamless powdery tannins giving rise to a long satisfying palate.

THE WINERY
Penley Estate is located in the center of Australia's most famous Cabernet region: Coonawarra. Continuing a family tradition that spans five generations, the winery was established in 1988 when the Tolley children continued the winemaking heritage of their pioneering families, Penfold and Tolley, both storied names in the Australian wine industry. In 1844, Mary Penfold defied stereotypes and was the driving force behind the establishment of McGill Estate. Similarly, from 1948-1961, Gladys Penfold Hyland was Penfold's Chairman of the Board. Their descendants, sisters Bec and Ang Tolley, run Penley Estate, proudly channeling the vim and might of their ancestors. Penley Estate's 240 acres of vineyards were planted atop Coonawarra's "terra rossa" soils with the aim of producing terroir-driven wines with distinctive regional character, and is now regarded as one of the region's leading Cabernet and Shiraz producers

Abbazia Di Novacella
Kerner
Alto Adige, Italy
2019

Cantine Barbera
Tivitti
Inzolia
Menfi, Sicily
2019
$16.99
Fresh and pleasant like the briny wind blowing from the Mediterranean, this Inzolia comes from young vineyards planted in Tenuta Belicello and is a charming white wine that offers pure Sicilian pleasure at every sip. Bright straw yellow with a greenish hue, the wine has a fresh and charming bouquet of pear, broom and almond blossoms that melt into lush and intense scents of white peach and fine herbs. On the palate, its juicy taste of white ripe fruit is well balanced by a pleasant acidity and an intense saline finish.

Domaine des Baumard
Savennieres
2017

Domaine des Baumard produces some of the finest examples of Chenin Blanc, and Jean Baumard and now his son, Florent, are universally regarded as the finest winemakers in the appellation. Reds:

Holper
Pinot Noir
Austria
2014
$17.99 reg. $19.99
The merest touch of undergrowth and cinnamon play on the red currant-fruited nose of this tender Pinot Noir. The palate is light, translucent, really smooth and rounded while staying fresh. This is gentle, light and aromatic with a dry finish.

Occhipinti
Il Frappato
Mt. Etna, Sicily
2016
$39.99 reg. $44.99
Il Frappato stems from a dream which I had when I was a girl to make a wine that knows the land that I work, the air I breath, and my own thoughts. It is bitter, bloody and elegant. That is Vittoria and the Iblei Mountains. It is the wine that most resembles me, brave, original and rebellious. But not only. It has peasant origins, for this it loves its roots and the past that it brings in; but, at the same time, it is able to fight to improve itself. It knows refinement without forgetting itself.

Alberto Orte
La Antigua Classico
Rioja Reserva
Sierra de la Demanda, Spain
2012
$24.99 reg. $27.99
This could qualify as a Gran Reserva. Deep red. Lively smoke- and spice-accented cherry and red berry aromas are complemented by floral oil, game and pipe tobacco flourishes. Seamless and focused on the palate, offering juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors that become sweeter with air. Shows very good energy and suave floral character on a long, fruit-driven finish that's given shape by well-integrated tannins.Absolutely delicious! Try pairing it with braised meats, roasted mushrooms, stewed beef, duck, and game.

Gaston Hochar
Chateau Musar
Bekka Valley, Lebanon
Red Blend
2010
$54.99 reg. $59.99
It is deep, rich garnet in colour with aromas of raisins, cedar, prunes and cinnamon. The 2010 is a savoury, herby wine with delicate spices and the raisiny, figgy aromas follow through to the palate. This is an elegant vintage with fresh acidity and a long, dry finish. Vegan

Robert Foley
The Griffin
Red Blend
Angwin, California
2015
$39.99 reg. $44.99
The griffin is the Foley Family crest in Irish heraldry, combining the strengths of the lion, king of beasts, with the eagle, king of the skies. Blended with Merlot, Petite Sirah, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Charbono, Petit Verdot, and sometimes others, this is a true symphony of red wines showing cherry and berry flavors. The big fruity mid-palate is framed with soft tannin, which yield to a gently gripping finish.

Vignereuse
Croizade
Syrah
Gaillac, France
2016
$29.99 reg. $37.99
We are absolutely thrilled to present the wines of Marine Leys, a talented and promising winemaker in the Tarn. Marine farms 5 hectares of hillside vines planted to Duras, Syrah, Braucol, Mauzac, Loin de l’oeil and Gamay.
Before starting the Vignereuse, she had worked for years behind the camera in film production across Europe, where she then moved to Canada, Ireland and eventually, Turkey. It was there that Marine found herself helping her employer plant a vineyard. She worked in the cellar and eventually handled the winemaking after studying in Beaune.
In 2012, Marine made her way to Gaillac to work and learn under the guidance of her friends, the legendary Plageoles family. In 2014, she found 5 hectares of vines in Andillac and the Vignereuse project was launched. Her first vintage delivers precise, flavorful and refined wines that speak both to the quality of the Gaillac as one of the most underrated AOP in France, and to her skills as a young winemaker.

Carlow
O'Hara's Irish Red
$13.99 | 4pk Nitro can
You’ll recognize the same great flavors of O’Hara’s Irish Red with trademark hints of sweet caramel and mild nutty biscuit, all amplified with a smooth creamy mouth feel and a nice warming finish.

Great Lakes
Conway's Irish Ale
$10.99 | 6pk
A pint for Pa Conway! Our co-owners’ grandfather and policeman who’d likely uphold that an Irish Ale with full-bodied caramel malt flavors is just the ticket. Stationed at the intersection of sweet and toasty, where biscuit and caramel malt flavors always have the right-of-way.

Guinness
Irish Dry Stout
$8.99 | 4pk Nitro can
Rich and creamy. Distinctively black. Velvety in its finish. This iconic beer is defined by harmony. Sip after sip, sweet counters bitter as the malt arrives on cue to compliment a base of roasted barley. Just as the unmistakable white head sits flush atop the dark beer, so do the flavors counter and combine perfectly. This is our greatest innovation.

Guinness Zero
Non-Alcoholic Irish Dry Stout
$8.99 | 4pk Nitro can
The Guinness with everything except the alcohol. Guinness 0.0 boasts the same beautifully smooth taste, perfectly balanced flavor, and unique dark color of Guinness, just without the alcohol.
To create Guinness 0.0 the St James’s Gate brewers, start by brewing Guinness exactly as they always have, using the same natural ingredients; water, barley, hops, and yeast; before gently removing the alcohol through a cold filtration method. The cold filtration process allows the alcohol to be filtered out without presenting thermal stress to the beer, protecting the integrity of its taste and character. The brewers then carefully blend and balance the flavors to ensure the distinctive flavor profile and taste characteristics of Guinness.
The resulting product is a stout that is unmistakably Guinness, just without the alcohol, featuring the same dark, ruby red liquid and creamy head, hints of chocolate and coffee, smoothly balanced with bitter, sweet and roasted notes.
