Weller Book Works Collectors' Book Salons feature libations and treats, social time for conversation and a special deal on rare books that is only available to guests. Books are bridges across the divides of time and space and they embrace the diversity of the human experience, we try to keep our treats, speakers and deals diverse, which is maybe another word for unpredictable. We encourage guests to dress up, or down, or weird, or playfully, to help our sensibilities out of predictable zones.

Glasses filled at 6:30 and we muster for the Collectors’ Chat at 7:15 in our Rare Book Room. The event has no digital component.
First Reports: The Collection and Contextualization of Newspapers as Critical Ephemera
This Collector’s Chat will be given by Ryan Roos, owner of Ryan Roos Rare Books and Americana Museum in Ephraim, Utah, and co-owner of Writ & Vision in Provo.

The presentation will highlight Roos’ journey collecting and preserving early newspapers, and will strive to enhance the audience’s appreciation of this radically unappreciated corner of print history. Ryan will bring and share rare newspaper examples ranging from the American Revolution through the Civil War and settlement of the American West.

Ryan Roos studied philosophy and religious studies at Utah State University. He and his wife Rachel live in Manti, Utah.
Coming in July...
Find Waldo in Trolley Square!
Iconic Children’s Book Character Continues to Create Summertime Fun to Support the Shop Local Movement
Where’s Waldo? In Trolley Square, of course! The iconic children’s book character in the red-and-white-striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting businesses throughout our mall this July. Find Waldo Local is a free, family-friendly summer activity and a wonderful way to support local businesses, including Tabula Rasa, Williams Sonoma, Spark, My Amour, and so many more!

Anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Trolley Square!” stamp card at Weller Book Works, which contains the names of all the participating sites; with each Waldo they spot, they can get their card stamped or signed by the participating shop. Waldo has also misplaced his glasses in Weller Book Works, so eagle-eyed hunters can find those as well! Collecting store stamps or signatures at mall businesses will entitle diligent seekers entry into a grand-prize drawing for Waldo books and paraphernalia.
Martin Handford’s collections of crowd scenes took the world by storm in the late 1980s, and since then the books have held a cherished place on bookstore shelves. More than 80 million Waldo books have been sold worldwide, and they’ve been translated into over thirty languages.

Once again, in celebration of Waldo’s longevity and popularity, Candlewick Press is teaming up with the American Booksellers Association and hundreds of independent bookstores nationwide for some hide-and-seek fun designed to encourage residents to patronize their local businesses. There is no charge to participate, and the hunt lasts for the entire month of July.
