| Pumpkins, Gourds, Grasses - Oh My! | |
Bookmark these helpful tips on how to manage pumpkins, decorative gourds, grasses, hay and candy wrappers after Halloween and Thanksgiving:
-
Organics recycling collection or free drop-off sites for apartments/condos: Pumpkins and gourds without paint, marker, glitter, or jewels can be composted. Make sure to also remove any candles.
-
Garbage: Pumpkins and gourds decorated with non-natural items like paint or jewels must be disposed of as garbage. All candy wrappers need to go in the trash, even those that are made from paperboard.
-
Yard waste: Undecorated pumpkins and gourds along with grasses and hay can also go in BPI-certified compostable bags, kraft paper bags, or in reusable yard waste collection bins. Just make sure your bags/containers/bundles are less than 40 lbs and less than 3 feet in length and 3 inches in diameter.

Thank you SO much for everyone who made this year's Fall Festival such a blast! We had a wonderful time celebrating with neighbors, enjoying live music from Lili Horizon and Jun Sugiyama in perfect weather, hosting a community book swap, and serving popsicles, hot dogs, popcorn and cider! This event was just about zero waste and generated only one small bag of trash, two containers of recycling, and 12 bags of organics!
Huge thanks to everyone who was a part of this year's event including Girl Scouts River Valleys, Metro Transit, League of Women Voters Minneapolis, Rainbow Collective for Change, Chance to Dance, ARTrageous Adventures, and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board's Neighborhood Naturalist program.
We are so grateful to our wonderful sponsors Blizzard Ski and Snowboard School and ARTrageous Adventures for making our 29th Annual Fall Festival possible!
| | October Monthly Meeting Recap | | |
Thanks to everyone who joined CIDNA's monthly meeting earlier this month. The board discussed its draft 2027 budget and evaluated recent events including the Fall Fundraiser, September Clean-up, final Community Bike Ride to Utepils & Fall Festival.
Save the date for our Nov. 11 meeting, also at 6 pm. All community members are welcome to join monthly meetings and listen in, ask questions, or volunteer.
| | Street Sweeping is Underway | | |
Minneapolis Public Works began the big task of sweeping 1,000 miles of city streets curb-to-curb starting this week.
Street sweeping helps keep leaves and debris out of the storm drains, which flow to lakes and creeks and the Mississippi River. Temporary hot pink “No Parking” signs will be posted at least 24 hours before they start. Please move your car before sweeping or it may be ticketed and towed.
Stay informed about the parking rules through a web map showing when your street is scheduled for sweeping, no parking signs on the street, and email and text alerts.
