Dear Families,
As we wrap up school and Formation, attend graduation ceremonies and parities, get ready for camps and VBS - I hope you can take a moment to Be Still, Be Thankful, and Be Together with those you love. On this Memorial Day, I am so thankful for all those who have served and given their lives to protect us all and our freedoms. May God bless and hold their families close. May we be good stewards of this hard-won freedom and protect it with the same courage and diligence as those that fought for us.
Vacation Bible School will begin a week from this Monday on June 2.
VBS is such a different and wonderful time for the kids. They go deeper in their formation, deeper in their friendships - old and new - and deeper in their connection with God and this community. They form friendships with kids of all ages and this keeps them wanting to come back on Sundays throughout the year. It is a week packed with fun, music, and learning about God and our faith together.
This year, we have invited some of our Refugee Ministries' families to attend VBS with us. 14 kids from our Nepali community will join us! We also have the biggest crowd of all time ( or at least as long as I have been doing this!) with a whopping 70 folks (kids and counselors) and 8 adult volunteers (along with Emily, Luke, and me). This is amazing as we see sister churches losing folks and cancelling VBS or combining with other churches to make it feasible. I am so very thankful for this community and hope you will pray for us June 2-6 as we learn about God's love.
While Children's Church does not meet in the summer, i will have cushions in the chapel for kids to sit on the floor in the back of the chapel. There will be coloring sheets and crayons and picture books will be on the bookshelf with the prayer books. Please have kids put everything back up where they got it. Mid July, we will try a simple Children's gathering on the playground to hear a story and sing some songs before joining parents. I will need parents to volunteer to help as we always need two adults. You will see a Sign Up Genius link to volunteer in next week's newsletter.
After VBS, I will be heading to Maine for a few weeks to be with family and friends, eat 'lobsta', swim in the bay, and sit out by the campfire watching shooting stars. I hope you will have time to refresh, renew, and rejuvenate. And then we will all gather back on this block to praise God, love one another, and do God's work!
