OUR INVESTMENT TIP

JUNE 2025 MARKET SUMMARY

Global markets remained volatile in June as stubborn inflation, renewed trade tensions, and central bank caution weighed on investor sentiment—even amid brief consumer confidence improvements.

Markets Stage a Comeback

  • Dow Jones gained +4.3%
  • S&P 500 rose +5.0%
  • Nasdaq surged +6.6%, led by gains in tech and industrial sectors

Surging optimism was driven by easing trade concerns and dovish signals from the Fed.

Consumer Sentiment Still Cautious

  • University of Michigan sentiment jumped to 60.7, up around 16% from May—but still well below late-2024 levels
  • Conversely, the Conference Board confidence fell to 93.0, signaling lingering worries over jobs and inflation

The takeaway? Consumers are slightly more optimistic—but most remain guarded in this continually unpredictable climate.

Fed Holds Rates, Projects Cuts Later in 2025

  • The Federal Reserve kept rates steady at 4.25–4.50% in June
  • Officials suggested two rate cuts may come later in 2025—but only if inflation clearly eases

What Investors Should Know

  • Stay invested: Missed the rebound? Markets may recover before you expect.
  • Stay diversified: Spread risk across sectors and geographies.
  • Stay disciplined: This isn’t the time for panic—market swings are still likely.
  • Stay proactive: Talk to your advisor—make sure your portfolio reflects your goals and risk comfort.

June’s combination of sticky inflation, trade uncertainty, and cautious central banks reinforces the value of disciplined, data-driven portfolio management. Canada forecasted to enter "mild" recession according to Deloitte

A modest recession is in the cards for Canada in the second half of this year as tariffs and trade uncertainty hit full force, according to a new Deloitte Canada report. Anne Gaviola spoke to chief economist Dawn Desjardins earlier this week about which sectors -- and which jobs -- are on the line.

FINANCIAL TERM OF THE WEEK:

JOINT-OWNERSHIP

Joint ownership is when two or more people legally share ownership of an asset—like a bank account, property, or investment—so that if one owner passes away, the asset automatically transfers to the surviving owner(s).

This structure can help bypass probate, making it a popular estate planning tool. For example, spouses often hold property as “joint tenants with right of survivorship” to ensure smooth and immediate transfer upon death.

But joint ownership isn’t always simple—it can raise tax implications, expose assets to another person's creditors, or complicate estate fairness among heirs.

Curious if joint ownership fits your estate strategy? Let DO Wealth help you evaluate your options clearly and confidently.
