Welcome to SCS Serves: a newsletter designed to highlight just some examples of our school's "Commitment to Serve" in action on our campus and in our community.

STUDENT BODY GIVES HUNGER A POUND-ING

Students at SCS took a bite out of hunger this holiday season. Led by a partnership between the SCS chapter of the National Honor Society and All Faith's Food Bank, students combined their efforts to help meet the needs of the food insecure during the Thanksgiving holiday. Donation boxes located throughout campus quickly filled with all things feast-worthy. Middle School students earned the chance to "pie" their MS Principal, Mark Martell by tipping the scales with 332 pounds of food donated. Thank you for being such a good sport Mr. Martell!

DISASTER RELIEF NEEDS HIT CLOSE TO HOME AND SCS RESPONDS

The SCS family showed up to support relief and clean-up efforts in the local community as well as on campus.

Sarasota County experienced a brutal hurricane season this year leaving devastation and destruction in its wake.

The SCS community quickly sprung into action through various projects. A group of high school students and staff, acting as God's "hands and feet," hauled trash, ripped out drywall and helped to distribute relief supplies throughout the hard-hit Laurel Meadows community.

Even closer to home, many SCS families showed up on campus after Debby, Helene and Milton to clean up debris and make repairs as quickly as possible.

The SCS Junior class organized relief supplies for distribution in the Laurel Meadows neighborhood.

SCS HELPS THOSE WHO ARE "DOING GOOD"

Mr. Stokes spread some holiday cheer recently as he delivered a check to members of the Mennonite Disaster Service Board. Donations were collected during this year's SCS Homecoming football game to support the relief efforts of Mennonite Disaster Service. SCS added to those funds for a total donation of $5,000.

Mennonite Disaster Service is a volunteer network with over 3,000 members dedicated to the clean-up, repair and rebuilding of disaster victim's homes. The MDS has been extremely active in helping those hardest hit by this season's storms.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to supporting relief efforts through the MDS!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Christmas came early this year as SCS NHS members truly went above and beyond for Operation Christmas Child! With incredible support from the entire school community, an impressive 369 shoeboxes were collected. Each box was thoughtfully and lovingly filled by our students and their families, bringing joy and hope to children in need around the world. Thank you to everyone who participated in this very special event.

BLAZERS IN ACTION

First grade students served up smiles alongside their annual "Thank You" feast. Students invited faculty and staff to enjoy this very special luncheon in appreciation for all that they do.

Coach K.'s health class spent time volunteering at Mission Thrift. Not only does serving others align with the SCS mission, but it also provides mental health benefits for those who serve.

Mrs. Kovacs' class, with help from their 5th grade buddies, made holiday cards for Sunnyside residents this year. Meanwhile, Mrs. Nielsen's class has been hard at work creating Christmas treasures for servicemen and women overseas.
