Staff show the Literacy Network sign at the new Reindahl office

A new library is always cause for celebration, but we're especially excited about the Imagination Center at Reindahl Park because of the ways it will allow us to connect with students. Literacy Network has its own office space at the Imagination Center Library, where we can conduct student intakes and meet one-on-one with students. We are also offering two classes a week in library meeting rooms, one Essential Literacy and one Community English, in partnership with Sandburg and Hawthorne Elementary Schools, which provide child care.

We have received countless requests for more services in this neighborhood, where 19% of residents don’t have a high school diploma (compared to 8% city-wide) and the population has grown at nearly double the rate of Madison’s as a whole. Thank you, Madison Public Library, for including us in this exciting new community resource.

Online Classes Continue to Expand Access

Zoom class

Did you know? Literacy Network offers 10+ classes on Zoom each trimester. While most of our classes transitioned back to in-person instruction after COVID, about a fifth of our students and tutors preferred to stay online. Because of this, we have continued to offer classes and tutoring (like the Community Literacy class above!) on Zoom.

Attending classes online helps students with barriers such as childcare and transportation still be able to participate. In recent student surveys, one student commented, "I like it because of the online classes since it’s hard for me to attend in person because of my kids’ school," while another likes that they "can study from home." At Literacy Network, we prioritize programming that meets student needs and are happy to reach more students through online classes.
