Supporting WILPF Means Supporting Program
Hello WILPF Sisters,
You recently received a Spring Appeal from WILPF US.
Have you contributed yet?
It featured the amazing work that our organization does to work for peace.
It identified specifically four programs that make a difference in our work, and which engage our members.
Here's what you missed:
1 - The UN Practicum for Advocacy, which each year brings the best and brightest young people from around the country to the UN to better understand the urgency of standing for peace in a world where human rights and militarism are constantly at odds.
This program helps us recruit new, enthusiastic young leaders to our branches and issue committees.
2 - The Mini Grants Program of WILPF US, which is arguably the most potent way we have of supporting the activism and voices of branches and members by funding important events, projects, videos, and public education forums of many kinds.
These grants are how we invest in you, and how WILPF members invest in one another.
3 - DISARM/End Wars Issue Committee for works with Branches and At-Large Members on abolishing nuclear weapons and the entire nuclear energy chain, keeping space for peace, banning killer drones, and stopping the endless cycle of war and militaristic expansion being pursued by our own nation.
In 2016 the committee co-chairs visited 27 Branches and their colleagues in other peace advocacy organizations. Disarm is promoting constituent visits to local Representatives in support of HR 1976 the only bill in Congress mandating US Leadership in global abolition of nuclear weapons. They are also sharing reports on inspiring and exciting nuclear abolition work by other nations via the United Nations: work that is not reported in our own mainline media.
Your contributions can help build WILPF support for Disarm and all our evolving volunteer Issue Committees seeking to develop tools for local action and participatory democracy.
4 - Earth Democracy's CLIMATE JUSTICE+WOMEN+PEACE Infographic Card project which offers a tangible tool for branches to use to link the subjects of climate change, refugee crisis, women's rights, immigration, food security, economic injustice through unbalanced trade agreements, endless war and environmental degradation.
None of these projects would be possible without support from people just like you.
So many of us in WILPF work hard on the efforts of our branches.
This Spring Appeal is a way to enhance that work, expand the results and amplify the voices and efforts you are already contributing for peace and addressing the roots of war.
If you have not done so yet, please consider a contribution that can support our work.
Please give NOW - to make that donation go even farther for all the work we do.
Give what you can, give as much as you can.
Thank you from our hearts,
Carol Urner
