Dear Fellow Activist

Even if you think escrow is something you put in a salad, there are good reasons to hone your advocacy skills to advance public banking!

Public Banking can save the planet, close the equity gap, address systemic racism, stop funding weapons and global wars, and level the playing field for women and families. You’ll gain valuable skills for outreach and organizing in this series of accessible virtual workshops for women—you can become a skilled advocate for economic change in your community.

We’re asking you to speak up for public banking now in your state!

Sign up NOW for our six-session small-group LEARNING CIRCLE series, offered at a sliding fee scale.

Join our initial meeting on Friday, August 27 at 8pm EDT/7pm CDT/6pm MDT/5pm PDT and work together through the Fall. Registration is limited to 20. All registration fees are donations that will fuel our work to make this information widely accessible.

Together with the guidance of a skilled advocate instructor, you’ll learn why public banking is currently taking off in cities and states around the US, what advantages and progress it’s offering locally, and how switching to a public bank from the too-big-to-fail Wall Street banks could save your state or city huge dollars better spent for affordable education, housing, and local loans for small businesses and farms.

You’ll get convincing talking points, strategies and mentoring from experienced organizers to advance public banking locally, build your confidence and credibility in a male-dominated realm, and move past hesitations and objections and the well-heeled lobbying of big transnational banks. Learn how to start the dialogue from scratch with the folks who need to be at the table, and most effectively support existing local initiatives.

You’ll find help to make your points effectively, without ‘mansplaining’ and ‘manterruptions’. Be taken seriously, even if you have no banking experience behind you!

After clicking on the registration link, select "TICKET” then “DONATION”.
Please be mindful that this donated fee covers all six sessions.

We offer this series on a sliding scale in keeping with our internal values of accessibility regardless of economic means. We value this course at $120, but even six dollars—one dollar per season—will get you on the roster.
(If you can afford to give more, please do, so that we may be able to continue offering free and low-cost economic justice resources to the public!)

Please contact me NOW to find out more about developments in your state and if you have any questions. Your help in can really make a difference.

Why is WILPF US promoting Public Banking?
WILPF and our allies in peace activism, environmental activism, gun control, and those working against corruption in government, favor public banking as an alternative to huge too-big-to-fail banks which seek profits for a few, not well-being for all.

  • Because economic inequality and corruption lead inevitably to conflict and violence.
  • Economic justice and people-centered economic policy helps support peace.
  • Public banking is an effective tool for ‘moving the money’ away from funding war and weapons, and towards people-centered services that keep everyone safe.
  • Public banks can provide more stability against Wall Street gamblers and the devastating impact of policies and financial strategies that are good for Wall Street but awful for Main Street.
  • They can keep local savings and investment local, prioritizing equitable affordable and safe mortgages, investing in small local businesses and new entrepreneurs, lowering student debt, and reducing the billions in service fees states and cities are paying to the big banks.
  • This article has even more information.
Your support helps us reach farther and be more effective. Consider a donation to WILPF today to demonstrate your solidarity with our work.
