Highlights of June 11 OPS and NOW Meetings

Members of the Crescent Hill Presbyterian Church community enjoyed fellowship and a lasagna dinner August 13, followed by meetings of the OPS and NOW committees.

OPS Committee—This group oversees the nuts-and-bolts, day to day operations of the church, including building and grounds, maintenance, stewardship campaign, budget development, investments, online giving, personnel and payroll, AV, marketing and social media, insurance, and church policy. OPS took no actions because key people were absent.

NOW Committee—This group guides programmatic work of the congregation, activities formerly coordinated by the Nurture, Outreach, and Worship Committees (including music and worship, Christian formation, earth care, gun violence prevention, garden ministry, mission beyond church walls). Actions included:

  • Learned that 12 people have updated background checks to work in the nursery.
  • Discussed ways to intentionally nurture children in the faith, including reading Bible stories in the nursery, involving children in the worship services, incorporating child-friendly hymns, offering educational segments on baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and planning activities for middle-school-age children.
  • Reviewed the system for following up with visitors, including inviting them to fill out a visitor card, letter and phone call, and making sure contact information is provided to the church office in a timely manner.
  • Discussed possible fellowship activities, including another square/contra dance and a concert on the church plaza.

Next meeting of NOW/OPS: Wednesday, September 10, opening with a fellowship meal at 6 p.m.

Cedar Ridge Camp Worship and Picnic – August 24

Everyone is invited to gather at Cedar Ridge Camp for worship and a picnic on Sunday, August 24. Pastor Tami will be preaching. Worship begins at 11:00 a.m. at the Lakeside Pavilion, with the picnic to follow. The pavilion is easily accessible for those with limited mobility. There will be no worship service at the church, but there will be a Zoom option available. The address is 4010 Old Routt Rd, Louisville, KY 40299.

Luiz Kemmerle and Jerry Van Marter will be tending the grill, cooking up hamburgers and hot dogs, as always. Drinks will be furnished. The rest of the meal will be potluck. The pool will be open for swimming from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m.

So bring your lawn chairs, sunscreen, and a dish to share to Cedar Ridge Camp on August 24!

PRESBYTERIAN DISASTER HYGIENE KITS

The Presbyterian Women’s Circle invites the congregation to participate in donating components for the Presbyterian Disaster Hygiene Kits that are distributed to people in areas where a disaster has occurred. Rather than publishing the entire list, PW has selected several items that we will concentrate on, including:

Single washcloth

Single toothbrush (in original packaging)

Single bath size bar of soap (in original packaging)

Single travel size toothpaste (3.4 oz. or less, expiration date of at least one year.)

PLEASE DO NOT SUBSTITUTE. All items should be NEW. You may bring as many items as you please but be certain to follow the stated instructions.

There will be a box in the room off the narthex where you may put your donation. Please donate items no later than SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 7, 2025. PW will see that the donations are brought to Beulah Presbyterian Church, where the hygiene kits will be assembled.

Prayer and Action for Middle East

Feel free to join us Thursdays on Zoom, in-person, or both. This group has enabled such support for one another as we all struggle to cope with the tragedies in the Middle East and the on and off cease fires and prisoner releases. We would be grateful to have others join us. Email Soni at soni.castleberry@gmail.com to get the Zoom link and be added to the group email list for regular communication.

Paul Seebeck has written an article about the prayer group for the online newsletter of the Synod of Living Waters. Read the article here: https://synodlw.org/2025/06/prayer-and-action-for-the-middle-east/
