For best service, please feel free to pre-order your must-have teas in our online shop at www.pleasuresoftea.com!
Hello all! I hope that everything continues to be well and you have been enjoying autumn so far :)

The shop has been abuzz getting ready for the upcoming holiday season. New inventory has been arriving, all of which will make great gifts. Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away...don't forget to pick up some teas and macarons for your dessert table. Small Business Saturday is November 27th, so be sure to support all of your favorite small businesses. Our holiday teas will be available Thanksgiving weekend, along with our holiday samplers and popular gift mug sets. Our holiday teas are listed below and so is our holiday schedule, which includes extended hours and extra days that the shop is open. Also, please note our annual post-holiday closure. And our annual holiday raffle will be back - details will be communicated next month!

The last day for Gong Fu Tea Service this year is Friday, November 12th. The autumn menu is available and details for this unique, by appointment service are outlined below. We still have a few spots left on Thursday and Friday, so book your appointment before they are gone. Gong Fu Tea Service will return in 2022.

Traffic at the shop has been increasing as we enter the busy season and wait times have been increasing. As a reminder, it is best to pre-order your teas for pick-up at the shop to streamline the processing of your custom orders and reduce your need to wait if the shop is busy when you arrive. Please place orders at least 24-hours ahead of desired pick up time, if possible, to ensure that I will see your order in the portal and have the time to pull it together in time for your arrival. Indicating the approximate date and time of pick up in the Comments section in the Cart helps ensure that your order will be ready for you upon arrival. If you plan to browse at the shop or grab a cup of tea, then please do not pay online - select the Pay at pick-up option. You will receive an emailed notification once your order is ready for pick-up.

To keep traffic flowing in the shop and reduce the backlog that occurs around Christmas, I am requesting that you please place any re-stock orders for personal use by Thursday 12/16 (if possible). The two weeks leading up to Christmas are peak browsing time and people tend to be in the shop longer as they look for holiday gifts. This slows down the flow of traffic in the shop and increases wait time. The shop will be open the entire week after Christmas from 12/26 through 12/31 for any necessary re-stocks before the shop is closed for a much needed post-holiday break.

I appreciate your continued support of my small business and I wish you much health and great tasting cups of tea. Wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving!
-- Kristine, FDN-P
COVID Policy

Normal business operations continue at the shop. The wearing of masks is not required, but you may continue to do so if you prefer. The traffic in the shop has increased and so has crowding and wait times. It is requested that everyone please bring a mask to the shop that may be worn during the times that we are packed, so that we don't have to ask people to wait outside as the weather begins to get cooler. Moving forward, I request that you do not come to the shop if you are feeling under-the-weather or please wear a mask, if you do stop by. As a reminder, pre-orders of loose leaf teas are encouraged in order to streamline the preparation of your custom orders and reduce your wait time, especially if the shop is busy when you arrive. Orders also continue to be shipped nationwide and all (pre)orders can be placed in our online shop www.pleasuresoftea.com. Your pre-order is not finalized until you pick up, so there is no need to input your credit card info. This allows flexibility to browse the shop, add more teas, a cup of tea, or some of our goodies to your order. Any additional changes to our COVID policies will be communicated as necessary.

Thank you for your continued cooperation! :)
Holiday Schedule

Gong Fu Tea Service

Gong Fu Tea Service can be enjoyed at the bar until this Friday 11/12!! This Chinese method of tea preparation means "done well" and it requires time and focus, delivering a more aromatic and flavorful infusion than those prepared using the more familiar western method of tea preparation. I am happy to again be able to incorporate this cultural aspect of tea into the shop and guide you further through your own tea journey.

This is an appointment only, seated service and, at the moment, is limited to two appointments at a time. Three may be accommodated if from the same household/group. Each session lasts 1-1/2 hours and costs $30, including the tax, paid upon booking. It includes multiple infusions of the tea that you select from the Gong Fu Tea menu and there are 3-7 infusions, depending on the tea selected and as time allows. It also includes a Gong Fu lesson, if you like, so that you may incorporate this method into your own tea ritual at home.

The menu is crafted and rotated seasonally and curated from the larger origin tea offering available in the shop. Our autumn menu includes:
  • Bitaco Tea White Tea - Columbia
  • Hand-Made 2nd Flush Green Tea - Georgia (Asia)
  • Satemwa Estate Pan-Roasted Green Tea - Malawi
  • Dong Ding Light Roast Formosa Wulong Tea - Nantou, Taiwan
  • Khongea Estate Autumn Wulong Tea - Assam, India
  • Wild Tree Purple Leaf Black Tea - Yunnan, China
  • Sticky Rice Sheng Pu-er Tea - Yunnan, China

If you would like to make an appointment for this unique experience, please email kristine@infuseteabarny.com or reply to this email. I look forward to preparing tea for you! :)
Teas & Tisanes for Holiday & Winter Wellness

The upcoming holiday and winter seasons can be a taxing time on our bodies and our ability to maintain optimal health. The stress of hectic schedules, colder and drier weather, fluctuation in indoor and outdoor temperatures, and exposure to germs in crowded places create the perfect environment to challenge our immune systems and increase the possibility of getting infected with the season's "nasty bugs". It is important to get proper rest and eat well in order to provide the support and nutrients necessary to keep our bodies healthy. Tea and tisanes can also be great partners in the fight against stress and supporting the immune system to keep us healthy and at our best all season long. It's never too late to get a jump start on supporting the immune system and reducing stress, so here are some key teas and tisanes to consider adding to your seasonal regimen.

Any tea will do, so drink them all - black, green, wulong, white, yellow, dark! Just make sure they are good quality and, if they are flavored, that they contain a very high percentage of tea leaves instead of other ingredients. The tea leaves contains many healthy compounds and a few of note are: 1) caffeine provides energy, reduces fatigue, and enhances cognitive function; 2) the amino acid L-theanine induces calm and relaxation, reduces stress, enhances cognitive focus and alertness, and strengthens the immune system; and 3) polyphenols and other antioxidants support the immune system and reduce the damage created by stress.

Tisanes, which originate from hundreds of plants, are the mostly caffeine-free herbals that are just as healthy as tea. Tisanes may derive from various parts of plants including roots, bark, leaves, fruit, flowers, and seeds. And some plants have multiple parts that may be used to support health and wellness. These plants contain many different healthy compounds due to their diverse origins and many have been used medicinally for thousands of years. Tisanes can be categorized into classifications based on the actions that they have on the body, especially the functional or medicinal tisanes. Here are just a few types of important tisanes to keep on hand at this time of year, along with several examples:
  • Relaxing nervines - affect the central nervous system to reduce stress and increase calm and relaxation. Such herbs include linden, lemon balm, chamomile, lavender, kava kava, passionflower, ashwagandha, our Relaxation Blend, and our in-house blends Organic Calm, Organic Nervine Tonic, Organic Rooibos Tranquility and Organic Pleasant Dreams.
  • Adaptogens - support the systems of the body and reduce the negative affects of stress. Such herbs include any of our tulsi herbs and in-house tulsi blends, astragalus root, eleuthero root, rhodiola root, ashwagandha, and our in-house Organic Immune Support Blend.
  • Immunomodulators - help to support the immune system. Such herbs include astragalus root, any of our tulsi herbs and in-house organic tulsi blends, and our in-house Organic Immune Support.
  • Immunostimulants - stimulate the immune system to reduce viral replication, which shortens the duration of viral infection and lessens severity of symptoms. Such herbs include elderberry, elderflower, Echinacea, and our in-house Organic Cold & Flu Blend.
  • Respiratory - I've put an assortment of herbs in this category, which all have different actions. These herbs may be used to alleviate cough and mild congestion, have expectorant properties, and coat the mucus membranes and soothing irritation from dryness and inflammation. Such herbs include elecampane, wild cherry bark, mullein, marshmallow root, hyssop, and our in-house blends Organic Lemon Ginger Mint and Organic Throat Soother.
  • Digestives/Carminatives - while these are not for stress reduction or immune support, they may help alleviate the discomfort of a heavy meal, nausea or other gastrointestinal ailments that may arise during the season. Such herbs include fennel, chamomile, ginger, peppermint, spearmint, our Lemon Ginger Mint Organic Blend and Digestive Helper Organic Blend.
All above herbs and in-house blends are available in the shop. Due to unique individual responses to herbs, some may work better than others for your individual needs. Let us know how we can best help you find the herbs that will provide the greatest potential benefit.
