Dear PR Maven Nation,
Welcome to the July edition of the PR Maven® Newsletter! As we move into the heart of summer, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the momentum we’re building and the opportunities ahead. For many of us in the world of public relations, marketing, and communications, this season brings more than sunshine — it brings preparation for fall trade shows, conferences, and networking events that are crucial for brand exposure and relationship building.
I hope the articles I’m sharing with you this month will be helpful in building your expertise in public relations, marketing, and communications.
Trade shows remain one of the most effective tools in the PR toolbox. Why? Because face-to-face interactions still matter. These events are opportunities to meet journalists, partners, and customers all in one place. They help you build authority in your industry and can generate valuable media coverage. If you’re heading to a trade show this month or later this year, remember to:
- Do your homework: Know who will be there and reach out in advance, particularly the trade show media in your industry.
- Bring your story: Have your elevator pitch and press materials polished and ready.
- Follow up: Relationships are built in the follow-up, not the handshake. Make sure the people at your booth are good at engaging with others (AKA not having their heads down looking at their phones instead of networking!)
While these events energize us, distraction is the invisible cost many businesses pay daily, whether at a trade show or at our desks on a day-to-day basis. The constant ping of emails, texts, and phone calls can fragment your focus and erode productivity. A distracted mind struggles to be strategic, creative, or effective — qualities essential to successful PR.
To reclaim your time and sharpen your focus:
- Set blocks of time to check email rather than responding reactively.
- Use “Do Not Disturb” features to create deep work time.
- Prioritize tasks using a daily to-do list that aligns with your bigger goals.
Finally, in today’s digital landscape, if people can’t find you online, you’re essentially invisible. One of the most effective ways to increase your discoverability — and Google SEO — is by consistently publishing valuable content and showing up on social media. Whether they are LinkedIn articles, Instagram reels, or weekly blog posts — engagement is currency.
Consider this digital visibility checklist:
- Share behind-the-scenes content to build authenticity and trust.
- Post thought leadership pieces to establish your expertise.
- Engage with others — comments, shares, and genuine connections go a long way.
Let’s use this month to tune out the noise, show up with purpose, and make real connections — online and in-person. Here’s to your continued success and visibility in all the right places.
Best,
|
