Mulmur is Turning 175 in 2026:

A Celebration of History, Community, and Progress

In 2026, Mulmur Township proudly turns 175 — a major milestone for a community rich in history, natural beauty, and strong local spirit.

To celebrate, we’re inviting local businesses, entrepreneurs, and community leaders to help create a year-long tribute that honours our past, showcases our present, and looks to the future. These celebrations will reflect the creativity, connection, and resilience that define Mulmur today. This is more than a celebration — it’s a chance to reflect on who we are, where we’ve come from, and where we’re headed.

Mulmur’s story began with its official survey in 1832, though its roots run deeper. The Township was formally established in 1851, built by settlers who relied on the land and local rivers like the Pine and Boyne for farming and milling.

We invite you to all celebrate with us and host a 175 event. Participants will be featured in brochures, event pages, signage, and more. Whether you run a storefront, company, or home-based business — there’s a place for you. Help us make 2026 unforgettable!

Stay up to date on events and opportunities by following the Township’s website and social media. Let’s honour our past, celebrate the present, and build a bright future — together.

Contact us at clerk@mulmur.ca to become involved.

Congratulations to Our 2025 Mulmur Post-Secondary School Grant Recipients!

Mulmur is proud to recognize and extend heartfelt congratulations to Aedan Mohandass and Nathan Onorati, the 2025 recipients of our Post-Secondary School Grants. Each student will receive $500 to support their continued education and academic goals.

The Mulmur Post-Secondary School Grant program was established to recognize local youth who demonstrate dedication to their education and community. By easing the financial burden of higher education, these grants are part of the Township’s ongoing commitment to invest in the future of our young residents.

Aedan and Nathan have shown outstanding initiative, both in and out of the classroom, and we are proud to support their next chapter. Whether they are heading to university, college, or a trade program, we believe in their potential and look forward to seeing the positive impact they’ll make.

Celebrate Parks & Recreation Month in Mulmur!

June is here, and it's time to celebrate Parks and Recreation Month! This month highlights the vital role our local parks, trails, and recreational programs play in enhancing the health, well-being, and quality of life for all Mulmur residents.

From the Dufferin County Forest and Mansfield Outdoor Centre to the Bruce Trail, our Township is home to incredible natural beauty and fantastic recreational opportunities. Don’t forget local gems like Pine River Fishing Area and community playgrounds across Mulmur’s hamlets — perfect for walking, biking, birdwatching, or simply relaxing in nature.

Parks and recreation are an essential part of the community. They promote health and wellness, foster community connections, encourage environmental stewardship, and provide economic benefits.

We encourage you to explore and enjoy all that Mulmur's parks and recreation areas have to offer this June. Keep an eye on the Township’s official channels for updates and special events throughout the month!

Watch Out for Our Shelled Friends on Mulmur Roads!

This time of year means turtles are on the move, often crossing roads to find nesting sites or new habitats. In Ontario, you might spot species like the Common Snapping Turtle, Midland Painted Turtle, or even the provincially threatened Blanding's Turtle (with its distinctive yellow chin).

What to do if you spot a turtle on the road (if it's safe to do so!):

  • Help it across in the direction it was headed. They know where they're going!
  • NEVER pick up a Snapping Turtle by its tail (this can injure their spine). If it's a Snapping Turtle, encourage it with a stick or carefully slide a car mat or shovel under it to guide it across. You can often safely hold them by the back of their shell (above the hind legs) on both sides.
  • Do NOT move a turtle to a "better" spot like a different pond or wetland. They have home ranges and returning them elsewhere can disorient or even kill them.
  • If you find an injured turtle, contact the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTCC) at 705-741-5000 right away.

Your moment of caution can save a life! Please keep an eye out for our shelled friends, especially on Mulmur's roads.

Tree Sales & Carbon Offsets in Mulmur

As part of the Township of Mulmur’s 2024 Strategic Plan, under the goal of Growing Awareness, one key action is to build a foundational understanding of environmental sustainability and climate change.

Trees have long provided many benefits—supplying food and fuel, controlling soil erosion, offering habitat, shading communities, protecting infrastructure from snow drifts, and improving air quality. But perhaps one of the most significant contributions trees make today is in the fight against climate change.

Trees absorb and store greenhouse gases, help protect shorelines from erosion, and play a major role in cooling urban areas. That’s why Mulmur has committed to action—completing its second annual Tree Sale in May 2025, with an impressive 3,384 trees added to the local environment.

While carbon absorption varies depending on species, size, and growing conditions, a conservative estimate suggests each tree absorbs 10 kg of CO₂ annually for the first 20 years. That means:

  • 33.84 tonnes of CO₂ will be absorbed each year
  • 676.8 tonnes of CO₂ will be offset over 20 years

To put it in perspective, that’s roughly equivalent to:

  • Offsetting the annual emissions from five 2020 Ford F-150s driven 20,000 km each
  • Or the emissions from a one-way flight on a Boeing 737 carrying 100 passengers from Toronto to Calgary.

Mulmur’s tree sale isn’t just about planting trees—it’s about planting solutions.
