The characters in Tom of Finland’s drawings – lumberjacks, bikers, soldiers and policemen – exude vitality, joy and pride. Their leather gear and uniforms are portrayed with the same exquisite attention to detail as their muscular physiques. In his drawings, men connect with one another through erotic-laden gazes, gestures and postures.

Dreamy – Queer Imaginaries, from the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma’s collection, aims to underline the connectivity between past and present practices dealing with LGBTQI+ identities, historicizing recent practices and signaling Tom of Finland’s pioneering agency.

On Tom of Finland Day – what would have been Tom of Finland’s 103rd birthday (8th May 2023) – we’re taking the opportunity to reflect on the iconoclastic artist’s creative and mission-driven legacy, whose significance has continued to deepen, especially in light of the current political and social climes.
Who Tom of Finland was, and how he came to be, remains a mystery for many. Let’s journey back to discover the man behind the bulging pen strokes. His artistic influence lives on in modern celebrations of sex between men.
The Order of the Lion of Finland is awarded in recognition of outstanding civilian or military conduct, and the President of the Republic of Finland has the exclusive right to confer their decorations as Grand Master of the Orders.
The U.S. Supreme Court today ruled 7-2 against the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts regarding the question of whether Warhol’s use in his own work of a photo of the musician Prince by Lynn Goldsmith constitutes fair use. Equality is treating everyone the same, while equity is ensuring everyone has what they need to be successful.
The more than two hundred works in Kiasma’s Bold Journey exhibition have one thing in common: artist Tom of Finland’s (1920-1991) interest in the male body, and especially the idealized body of the alpha male.

A months-long artists’ boycott of a prominent Finnish museum came to an end after the institution said it would cut ties with a controversial patron. The strike came to an end when the Finnish National Gallery (of which Kiasma is a part) committed to new guidelines for ethical fundraising.
Step aside Berghain, there’s a new hedonistic art scene hitting the streets of Berlin from 12th-14th May, Tom of Finland Foundation presents the Tom of Finland Art & Culture Festival 2023: GlobalSexual – its set to kick off in Berlin, before moving on to London and Los Angeles in July and October respectively
Tom of Finland’s work is now recognized as fine art; it is also commemorated on a postage stamp, illustrated books (e.g. from TASCHEN in Cologne), a movie, and in countless other ways. For example with Queer festivals like this one – and with the art of Søren Zschocke, among others.
Get ready for a weekend of erotic art, fashion, and culture as Tom of Finland Foundation presents the highly-anticipated Art & Culture Festival 2023 in Berlin, London, and Los Angeles.
