DONATIONS NEEDED!

Help us build a fantastic new playground for Tomahawk Park!

“For many Leawood residents, Tomahawk Park holds a special place in their hearts. Parents would often tell their children ’Let's go to Blue Park’ as all the structures were primarily blue. The kids would load in the car and off they went.

The current playground needs some love. The Parks, Recreation & Arts department is excited to introduce a unique new playground for the next generation of Leawood residents. The play area will have multiple new amenities including an amazing structure for ages 2 and up and a dynamic structure for ages 5 and up.

New swings, multiple ground play elements, bike racks, and educational signage will also be part of the new play area.

Donations of $25+ will receive a Leawood 75th anniversary T-shirt

Donations of $500+ will have the individual or family name added to a plaque adjacent to the area

Please consider assisting the city fund all these new, expanded amenities for the children, by donating to the Leawood Foundation.”

FIRE SAFETY MESSAGE

SIMPLE WATER SAFETY STEPS THAT CAN SAVE LIVES!

As summer approaches and temperatures rise, many of us are eagerly anticipating poolside fun and relaxation. However, before we dive into the season, it’s important to remember that safety comes first. Here are some pool safety tips from the Leawood Fire Department.

Stay Close, Be Alert and Watch

  • Always watch children and never leave them unattended
  • Keep children away from pool drains, pipes, and other openings
  • Have a charged phone close by at all times
  • If a child is missing, check the pool first
  • Share safety instructions with family, friends and neighbors

Learn and Practice Water Safety Skills

  • Learn to swim and make sure your kids do, too
  • Know how to perform CPR on children and adults
  • Understand the basics of life saving so that you can assist in a pool emergency

Have the Appropriate Equipment

  • Install a fence of at least four feet in height around the perimeter of a pool or spa
  • Use self-closing and self-latching gates
  • Ensure all pools and spas have compliant drain covers
  • Install an alarm on the door leading from the house to the pool
  • Keep pool and spa covers in working order
  • Have life-saving equipment such as life rings or reaching poles available for use

Adopt and practice as many safety steps as possible.

Adding an extra safety step around the water can make all the difference.

You never know which safety step will save a life - UNTIL IT DOES.
