January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month

According to the Department of Homeland Security, human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act. Every year, millions of men, women, and children are trafficked worldwide – including right here in the United States. It can happen in any community and victims can be any age, race, gender, or nationality.

This month, we strive to bring awareness to human trafficking prevention. Here are some resources to help:

Spotlight on Project SAGE

The HART Challenge

Every year, the Connecticut Human Antitrafficking Response Team (HART) sponsors the "HART Challenge" to encourage friends of HART to provide education and awareness around issues of human trafficking in the state. This year's Challenge was in two parts: participate in the #wearblue photo campaign and conduct at least one activity to raise awareness about human trafficking during the month of January.

First, staff at Project SAGE posed for the #wearblue photo campaign in mid-January, and we've been sharing the image, along with details about human trafficking prevention, on our social media feeds since. Make sure you're following Project SAGE on Facebook and LinkedIn to keep up on all our news and activities -- including ones like this!

Second, you're helping us complete the awareness-raising part of the challenge right now. By reading about human trafficking in This Month at Project SAGE, you're increasing your knowledge about a problem that persists even in our quiet corner of the state. Moreover, by following the links in our Resource Roundup below, you'll find practical tips and strategies to help protect your loved ones and prevent trafficking in the Northwest Corner.

Thank you for all that you do to help make this a safer and healthier community and for supporting Project SAGE's mission of ending interpersonal relationship violence of all types. We're glad you're in our Corner!
