May the grace and peace of Christ be with you.
The history of our past and current apostolic works holds many meaningful stories of providence and support. Before the September 30 board meeting at Niagara University, the campus dedicated a garden honoring Marcus Brown. In 1882, facing a financial crisis that threatened to close its doors, the university treasurer reached out to Brown, a local Jewish merchant with no formal ties to the institution. Tradition holds that the very next day, Brown trekked through knee-deep snow to personally deliver the funds that saved "Old Niagara." You can read more about his story and the garden dedication here.
On October 3, I had the privilege of joining Fr. Charlie Strollo, CM, and the men of the DeAndreis House at St. Helena Parish in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, for the Institution of Ministry of Lector. Bishop Larry J. Kulick of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, served as the main celebrant. Three of our men, John Cung, Dominic Nguyen, and Oscar Sontay Ramos, received the ministry, alongside seminarians from other dioceses and candidates for the permanent diaconate for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Please continue to keep John, Dominic, Oscar, and all our seminarians in initial formation in your prayers.
