Dear Friends

The attic was full of energy, laughter, and delicious food last Sunday, it was such a joy to be together again! A huge thank you to the Gaynor's and Annette Sullivan for cooking up an incredible pancake breakfast, and to the Paga family for bringing the always-scrumptious Papa John’s!

Whether you're a master chef or a master of takeout, we’ll take it! We appreciate all forms of nourishment on Sunday nights. “The Lord walks among the pots and pans”

During our first SNL & Y’all Saints’ night of the year we reflected on the importance of treating one another with respect, love, and kindness. I shared a bit of my own faith journey and how much being part of a loving Christian community has shaped me.

The truth is: no one can step into the living Spirit if they’re being teased, left out, or made fun of. That’s not how we bring the unconditional love of God into the room. Youth group can be a space that’s different from the rest of the world, a space where you can be yourself, lift up and encourage your friends, and grow in faith without fear of judgment. We want to build each other up not build walls around ourselves. This Sunday, we'll be speaking about what love is. Don’t miss it, we’ll be back in the attic from 6:00–7:30 PM!

Mark Your Calendar: Youth Sunday is September 21st!

Our Fall Youth Sunday service is coming up on Sunday, September 21st at 9:00 AM, and we need YOU to help lead worship! This is a meaningful opportunity to step into leadership, grow in your faith, and show the congregation how amazing our youth community truly is. Whether it’s your first time or your fifth, there’s a place for everyone to get involved. I will be reaching out over the next weeks on the youth ministry phone number to hype up the service!

Roles include:

Usher

Eucharistic Minister (help serve communion)

Reader of the Prayers of the People

Reader of the Opening Acclamation

Sign up here to choose your role:

Important: If you're participating, please arrive at church by 8:15 AM on the 21st. We'll walk through everything, set up together, and make sure you're ready to lead with confidence. Adults will be on hand to support and answer any questions.

I’ll be reaching out over the next couple of weeks from the Youth Ministries phone number, 470-590-3471, to hype up the service, answer questions, and help you get plugged in. So if you see a enthusiastic text or call about youth ministry, it’s probably me.

Peace,

Luke

Volunteer Opportunity

To help build stronger connections and make this year meaningful for our youth, I’ve put together a Sign-Up Genius and a Google Doc with a variety of ways you can get involved in youth ministry. The Google Doc lists all the volunteer roles—please check the boxes for anything you're comfortable signing up for. The Sign-Up Genius includes specific dates and time slots for each opportunity.

Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or looking to jump in for the first time, there’s something for everyone:

Volunteer Roles Available:

  • Provide Dinner for Sunday Night Youth Group (SNL & Y'all Saints'): Help feed our hungry youth by cooking, ordering, or bringing dinner. Fan favorites include Moe’s and Papa John’s Pizza—always a hit! Please note you do not have to bring a separate dinner for SNL and Y'all Saints, because we all eat together!

  • Sunday Formation Teacher: Join a team of volunteers to lead Sunday morning formation. Don’t worry—you won’t be doing it alone. We’re building a team-based structure to make it collaborative and low-pressure, even for first-time teachers.

  • Sunday Greeters (Morning and Evening): A warm hello makes all the difference. Greeters help our youth feel seen and welcomed as they arrive for programming.

  • Drivers & Chaperones for Local Outings: Occasionally, we’ll head off-site for events like bowling, laser tag, Braves games, or other local activities. We’re looking for adults willing to drive and actively participate—whether that means scoring strikes or just being a supportive presence.

  • Retreat Drivers & Chaperones: If you’re able to spend a weekend away, we’d love to have you join us as a chaperone or driver. It’s a chance to connect deeply with our youth and experience God’s presence in new ways.

  • Home Gathering Hosts: We’re looking for hosts willing to open their homes for small-group gatherings, game nights, or seasonal celebrations. You choose what you’re comfortable hosting.

  • Letter Writing: Help send notes and flyers to members in our community

We’re looking forward to an amazing year together, and I’m so grateful for your time, support, and energy as we continue building a meaningful youth community!

To take the online training - just go to Safe Church Training, check out the dates available, and sign up!

Even if you don't work with Children or Youth, you are encouraged to get trained - the more we know, the safer our kids are.

Fall Acolytes

The fall acolyte schedule is out but that doesn't mean that the acolyte registration is closed. You still have the chance to join an acolyte team! We’re offering a second Acolyte Training on Sunday, September 14th, immediately following the 11:15 AM service in the church. Please email me if you want to attend to training on the 14th

During the training, we’ll review what it means to serve as an acolyte, walk through your responsibilities during the liturgy, and practice the specific movements and roles you’ll be leading on Sunday mornings. Whether you’re new or returning, this is a great chance to refresh and connect with your team.

Parenting with God

Sept. 14, 10:30-11:10

Ross Rm, 3rd fl. Ellis Hall

Join other parents and grandparents as we lean into our role as Faith Formation storytellers for our children. The church walks beside you in this role, but what does it mean for you? We will talk about how to intentionally share our own stories of faith with our children and how to listen and wonder with them about how the Holy Spirit is working within them. We will witness and learn to be witnessed to, to bless and to be blessed - by our children and each other along this amazing, confounding, lovely, crazy journey.

The theme of Storytelling will guide us this year. I'm including a few articles to get you into the mood and to see the importance of telling our stories. We will also walk through Josh Scott's Parables - Putting Jesus' Stories in Their Place. It is a short, great book for discussion and a good one to have in your library if you feel moved to purchase it.
