If you wish to join the parade, contact swwap@mhtc.net. SWWAP will have uplifting signage for the attendees to carry which highlights the nurturing of democracy and importance of community. We’ll leave the birthday boy to revel in staged violence, while we’re parading our shared values at the annual Summer Frolic. SWWAP/Forward Marching Band are number 62 in the parade line-up.

Let us know if you want to be part of this fun event by emailing SWWAP HERE.

AFTER THE PARADE ALL ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THE FOLLOWING SPIRITED EVENT ORGANIZED BY INDIVISIBLE SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN AT THE MINERAL POINT OPERA HOUSE. RISE AND SING OUT TOGETHER!

What is Building Unity?

Building Unity connects individuals and organizations who are working for peace, justice, sustainability, and democracy through the power of nonviolent action. Our core belief is that by aligning our diverse gifts and working together in a loving community, we can discover the synergistic power needed to create meaningful social change. Building Unity advocates for . . .

Peace

  • Investing in diplomacy, peacebuilding, and meeting essential human needs
  • Building safer communities through comprehensive gun law reforms

Justice

  • Advancing comprehensive justice and human rights for all, with equal protections regardless of race, gender, or any form of discrimination
  • Achieving economic justice with living wages and universal access to healthcare, housing, education, and nutrition
  • Implementing compassionate immigration reform grounded in gratitude for immigrants’ contributions

Sustainability

  • Taking urgent environmental action to address the climate emergency
  • Ensuring environmental sustainability for our collective future and the well-being of generations to come

Democracy

  • Strengthening democracy through restored voting rights protection and fair voting districts
  • Ensuring fair and accessible elections for all
  • Building real participatory democracy in the U.S.

JOIN THE CONVERSATION

Political events can feel pretty scripted. The candidate has their talking points.

People ask predictable questions. Everyone knows where to stand. It can feel a little stiff, right?

Well, it’s hard to be stiff in the cozy old red chair at Brix Cider! That’s where our candidates for governor will sit during Community Conversations @ Brix — a series of informal, curious, and hopefully revealing conversations with people asking for the chance to lead Wisconsin.

Host Matt, co-owner of Brix, may or may not ask predictable questions as he tries to get a better sense of who these candidates are beyond the talking points. So far three candidates have been scheduled, Brix is in the process of scheduling others.

These conversations might have their awkward moments, but maybe that’s the point. Maybe when things feel a little less scripted, people open up in a different way. Maybe we share a laugh. Maybe we feel something real and resonant. Maybe we get a glimpse of the person behind the campaign.

Hosting this event does not constitute an endorsement by Brix, Main Street Action, Mt. Horeb Area Progressive Trolls or SWWAP. Our goal is to create space for thoughtful civic conversation, and we have invited gubernatorial candidates to participate in this series.

SWWAP newsletters will feature a new series of videos highlighting America's first 250 years. The project is spearheaded by Heather Cox Richardson. The first video below features a short introduction to the series, the following video features the establishment of Social Security, and a stern warning to those who wish to endanger it.
