Hello Everyone,
It is hard to believe that it is already July and two weeks into summer. A lot of us are getting outside, enjoying parks, bike rides, walks, and continuing our close connection to family. Some of us are enjoying this close connection inside doing puzzles, playing games, and in some cases, enjoying the air conditioning.
I am always amazed at my children. Our family
recently spent five days without air conditioning. Before the system was repaired, it was
getting to over 90 degrees outside. Even with all windows open and fans running, the house
still reached 85 degrees at times. While my wife and I prepared cold meals so as
to not heat up the kitchen and doing our best to not complain, my children had a different response. As if nothing had changed,
they continued to play games, sing songs, read, and tell us
“it’s not that bad.” Sleeping at night became an adventure. Instead of sleeping in their shared room with a bunk bed, they decided instead to move to the small guest room with one person in the bed, one on the floor, both windows open and fans bowing on each. What a way
to adapt!
Guided by our children, we will also continue to find ways to adapt during times of adversity. Hopefully, we will do this with the same sense of adventure and grace that kids.
